Role Purpose
Supporting Tenants works with young people who are either moving into their own homes, or who are currently at risk of becoming homelessness due to the fact they are struggling to manage their current accommodation.
As a tenancy support worker, you will work as part of a team to provide intensive and structured one to one support to a caseload of young people and young families using a strength-based approach to achieve the goal of sustaining their accommodation.
The role involves developing the skills and confidence of young people and empowering them to achieve identified goals and maximise independence within the timeframe for support. The role involves some lone working with young people some with a variety of multiple and complex needs.
As a tenancy support worker, you will:
- Support - You will spend time on a one to one basis, working with young people on their goals e.g helping young people claim all the benefits they are entitled to
- Empowerment - You will provide information around tenancy related issues e.g. how to report repairs, pay rent or manage debts. Building confidence to manage these issues.
- Advocacy - You will support young people to challenge some of the discrimination they experience e.g. supporting young people challenge a decision regarding priority for rehousing.
Roundabout is committed to ensuring the safeguarding of the young people who access its services. In this role you will work as part of a multi-agency team to safeguard vulnerable young people and families, participating in multi-agency case meetings, conferences and where necessary take the lead role and organise these meetings.
Key Accountabilities
- To deliver one to one structured keywork sessions to an allocated caseload.
- To undertake comprehensive strength-based assessments and the drawing up of person-centred goals to achieve agreed outcomes.
- To undertake multi-agency work to support young people to signpost to and support to access other services in line with their needs and goals for the future.
- To maintain regular contact with young people, manage risk effectively and ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
- To offer flexible and creative ways of working to actively engage young people and ensure they fully participate in support offered.
- To maintain accurate records using Roundabout's case management system, e.g. support plans, case notes, outcomes and formal reports as required by policies and good practice.
- To professionally represent Roundabout to external agencies, building good links and promote the service across the city.
- To work as part of a team to cover a duty rota and cover for colleagues as required by the service manager.
- To ensure the engagement of young people in an accredited training program of life skills, delivered as part of the package of support.
Other Duties
- To adhere to Roundabout's policies and procedures at all times.
- To keep up to date with changes to key legislation, especially relating to welfare and housing and other matters relevant to successful support of young people.
- To be proactive in reviewing and evaluating own performance and use supervision and appraisals to identify areas for development and improvement.
- To have regard for confidentiality and not disclose information to unauthorised parties, and maintain professional boundaries at all times.
- To recognise diversity and promote inclusion for all young people accessing Roundabout's services.
- To participate in fundraising events and promote Roundabout externally as required.
- To undertake, as required, any other duties compatible with the level and nature of the post or reasonably required by managers.
Person Specification
Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Direct face to face work with vulnerable young people, or a similar client group.
- Experience of undertaking strength-based assessments, support plans and reviews with vulnerable people, and supporting them to achieve goals and outcomes.
- Experience of multi-agency working, and effective liaison to ensure young people access appropriate services to meet their needs.
- Experience of advocating on behalf of clients, challenging external services where necessary to meet the needs of young people.
- Experience of undertaking accurate and thorough risk assessments and addressing safety concerns through mitigating identified risks.
- A working knowledge of the benefit system, including challenging decisions and appeals.
- Knowledge of the safeguarding process, in relation to working with vulnerable people, especially families.
- Knowledge of health and safety and lone working in the community.
- Understanding of the needs of vulnerable young people and issues affecting them living in their own homes
- Excellent communication and IT skills, including a working knowledge of database recording systems and ability to maintain appropriate records and monitoring systems.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
