Platform Engineering Manager - Manchester (Hybrid) - Salary: £90,000 + Bonus
The Company:
Lorien are working with a Manchester-based tech business that's investing heavily in its platform capabilities. With a focus on innovation and scalability, they're building out a high-performing engineering function to support a 24/7 live environment. As part of this growth, they're looking for an experienced Platform Engineering Manager to lead a key area of the team.

The Role:
This is a leadership role that blends technical oversight, strategic input, and team management. You'll be responsible for maintaining and enhancing a hybrid cloud and on-premise infrastructure that underpins a revenue-generating platform. Working alongside the Head of Platform, you'll guide a subset of the engineering team, providing mentorship, technical direction, and support across critical projects.

You'll remain hands-on where needed, ensuring that platform stability, performance, and security are prioritised in every decision.

The Skill Requirements:
We're looking for candidates with a mix of the following:

  • Proven track record leading platform teams in high-availability environments
  • Strong understanding of hybrid platforms (VMware + AWS is ideal, but OK with Azure/GCP)
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling and pipelines (Jenkins ideal)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Hands-on experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm)
  • Scripting knowledge (Python, Bash, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
