The Role
Are you looking to help develop advanced laser and electron beam powder bed fusion additive manufacturing (AM) capabilities and expand the use of AM across the fusion industry?
This role offers the opportunity to support the development and production of additive manufacturing (AM) components for the fusion industry, collaborating closely with project teams across UKAEA, including STEP and FTF. You'll gain hands-on experience operating and maintaining advanced AM equipment, while contributing to real-world engineering projects that drive innovation in clean energy.
We're seeking individuals who are enthusiastic to build their skills, take charge of their professional growth, and contribute to shaping the future of fusion manufacturing. If you want to expand your knowledge of AM techniques across a variety of materials for fusion applications and actively participate in team meetings within your section and the wider group, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Accountabilities:
- Interface with design teams to understand AM requirements, participate in design reviews, develop testing programs, and assist in writing procedures, specifications, and technical reports.
- Assist with managing manufacturing documentation, monitor progress and quality of in-house and subcontracted work, identify non-conformances, and ensure compliance with UKAEA standards, health, and safety requirements.
- Gain understanding of AM qualification processes to national and international standards, become familiar with post-processing requirements, and assist in developing internal specifications.
- Coordinate procurement activities, ensure value for money and budget compliance, and support execution of project work by instructing and enabling assisting staff.
- Represent the organization at external events, keep up to date with emerging AM technologies and techniques for fusion, and participate in external visits such as supplier surveillance.
