Description of department:

The National Disruptive Effects Unit (NDEU) is part of Counter Terrorism Policing, hosted by the City of London Police. The unit oversees specialist counter terrorism tactics – known as Disruptive Effects - which include Project Servator across policing and See, Check and Notify training for businesses. In addition to training the tactics, the team are responsible for assuring high standards of national delivery, brand compliance and product development. The NDEU also provides support to partners spanning the UK and overseas, all with the goal of disrupting hostile reconnaissance and keeping the public safe.

Role purpose:

The Engagement and Partnerships Sergeant in NDEU is responsible for leading on the quality and consistency of the community engagement component of Project Servator and See, Check and Notify (SCaN). The post holder will coordinate, develop, deliver and quality assure national SCaN training, build relationships between police and private industry and assist forces through the provision of support and mentoring. They will support forces across the UK in implementing Project Servator by undertaking engagement with business and industry at a national level. Reporting to the Inspector NDEU, the post holder will also manage two PCs responsible for the delivery of SCaN and other related training.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Disruptive Effects training.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with other police forces, stakeholders and partners in the counter terrorism space, including working closely with the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) and the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA).
  • Develop and pursue new opportunities to expand the reach of Disruptive Effects.
  • Represent the NDEU at national meetings.
  • Deliver presentations and training to a range of policing audiences.
  • Maintain high standards of national Disruptive Effects delivery nationally through quality assurance.
  • Oversee the NDEU's engagement strategy, identifying and working closely with key stakeholders to effectively deliver Disruptive Effects across the UK.
  • Work with NDEU Head of Communications to build engagement into communications strategy.

Essential criteria:

  • Ability to work as part of a high performing team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, demonstrated to a variety of audiences.
  • High degree of flexibility in moving between tasks as business priorities dictate, with an ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Exceptional organisational ability to generate and manage own workload and that of direct reports.
  • Demonstrable ability to build and maintain strong working relationship a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Especially with police forces, law enforcement partners and business/industry at a strategic level.
  • Experience of developing and delivering training packages.
  • Ability to develop and create new ideas and better ways of working.
  • Current Disruptive Effects Officer (DEO) and Disruptive Effects Operational Commander (DEOp) qualifications, with recent demonstrable experience of leading Project Servator deployments.
  • A willingness to become a trainer in the full Disruptive Effects syllabus, including Project Servator, SCaN and Security-Minded Communications (SMC).
  • Flexibility to travel outside of the force area as required, including occasional international travel.

Desirable criteria:

  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) is desirable, or a willingness to complete the qualification is essential.
