What is Flagstone?
Flagstone is many things. An online savings platform, reinventing how individuals, businesses, and charities manage, protect, and grow their cash. A diverse group of people, bound by a collaborative spirit, and shared purpose. And lastly, a thriving, profitable business – where smart people do their best work.
Each definition shares a common thread: our unique culture. It's our pride and joy. And our competitive advantage.
A feel for our culture:
To revolutionise the savings market, we need to be at our best. But high performance takes more than talent – it takes a culture of kindness, respect, and growth.
That's why we're building a diverse, inclusive community, where your voice is heard and valued. Where, with close support and room to develop, you can surpass even your own expectations. And be rewarded for it.
We may not change the world, but we can change the world of financial technology. And all it takes is a winning mix of drive, talent, and empathy. Our culture celebrates all three.
But enough about us. Let's talk about you.
Does this sound like you?
You're a strategic data leader with significant experience in fast-paced, cross-functional environments. You combine deep technical expertise with commercial acumen and a passion for unlocking insight through data. You're excited about shaping the future of data strategy, governance, and analytics to drive business outcomes. You bring a clear vision, strong leadership, and the ability to turn complex data into actionable insight.
What you'll do:
As Head of Data, you'll be responsible for shaping and scaling our data strategy, ensuring data is treated as a core asset across the organisation. You'll lead a team of engineers, analysts, and data scientists, partnering closely with product, technology, commercial, and compliance teams to deliver scalable data solutions that power decision-making, client experiences, and innovation.
Strategy & Vision
- Own and evolve the company's data strategy, aligned to business goals and future growth.
- Champion a modern data platform to support operational and commercial decision-making.
- Drive adoption of data first thinking across the organisation, embedding data into how we build, operate, and serve clients.
Execution & Delivery
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable data architecture, pipelines, and models to support analytics, reporting, and AI/ML experimentation.
- Deliver high impact insight and reporting capabilities across key areas like product, operations, and finance.
- Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and regulatory requirements (e.g. GDPR), maintaining high standards for quality, security, and transparency.
Team Leadership
- Build and develop a high-performing data team across engineering, analytics, and science disciplines.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and data literacy across all levels of the organisation.
- Provide coaching, performance management, and career development for direct and indirect reports.
What you'll bring:
We're a Microsoft-first business, with infrastructure primarily on Azure, and we make heavy use of PaaS services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Lake, and Power BI. We also leverage Databricks for scalable data processing, analytics, and machine learning workflows. You'll need strong technical understanding of cloud-native data architecture, alongside leadership experience and a track record of delivering impact through data.
We'd love to see:
- Proven leadership experience in a data-focused role, including line management, coaching, and performance development
- Strong technical foundation in data engineering and analytics — ideally including Databricks, SQL, Python, Power BI, or Spark
- Deep experience with Azure data services and cloud-first architecture
- Track record of designing and delivering high-quality insight, reporting, and predictive analytics
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at C-level
- Sound knowledge of data governance, security, privacy, and compliance best practices
- Experience aligning data strategy to business goals in a scaling environment
- A growth mindset and the ability to lead transformation through data
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate data into commercial narrative
