Aston Medical School is focused on promoting social mobility, leadership and international connectivity whilst addressing the needs of its community through its widening participation pathway, research strategy and emphasis on primary care education and healthcare leadership.

We now offer an exciting opportunity for clinical trainees seeking experience and training within medical education. We seek an FTE medically trained Clinical Teaching Fellow (CTF) to contribute to the delivery and management of an innovative undergraduate curriculum, to commence immediately. This post will not normally count towards the required clinical training.

Working within a supportive and dynamic multi-professional MBChB team, the post-holder will principally facilitate small group tutorials on basic clinical skills to Years 1 and 2 but may also support medical school days in Years 3, 4 and 5. The CTF will also contribute to programme development, including electives and assistantships, admissions, and assessments, and act as a Personal Tutor. In addition, the postholder will have opportunities to develop their lecturing skills, create and use teaching resources, and contribute to the design, management and faculty development of the MBChB programme.

Full training and support will be provided along with comprehensive teaching materials. Post holders who intend to continue to a second year will be expected and supported to undertake the PG Certificate/Diploma/Masters in Higher Education provided by Aston University, depending on previous training, and there will be opportunities for collaborative evaluation or research projects.

It is essential that applicants have a passion for supporting undergraduate medical education and an enthusiasm for cross-disciplinary working with colleagues in the University and the NHS.

Applications are open to those who have completed FY2 and/or core training and are not proceeding to speciality training this academic year. Potential applicants are advised to discuss their application with their Training Programme Director before applying. The School will work with successful applicants and local Trusts to help them continue with one clinical session per week.

We encourage informal discussion of the post before the interview, and a tour of facilities will be arranged for the day of the interview; please contact Dr Claire Stocker at

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to give a short presentation.
