Teaching Fellow in Secondary Education

Birmingham City University has an exciting opportunity for an experienced secondary subject specialist to join our Secondary ITE Education team as a Teaching Fellow. We are looking for a dedicated and motivated practitioner who is passionate about supporting trainee teachers and delivering exceptional, evidence-based education.

You will be part of a supportive and friendly team committed to excellence and partnership working. Together with our partner schools, we deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education, preparing the next generation of secondary teachers.

In this role, you will work with school partners, subject leads, and the partnership team to source and allocate placements for trainee teachers. You will support and quality-assure our Brightspace Online Mentoring Training Programme, working closely with the Lead for Mentoring and school mentors. The role also includes teaching on ITE Professional Studies modules, observing trainee teachers in schools, and providing professional and pastoral support. You will take part in Open Days, Get into Teaching events, and other key activities, as well as engage in continuous professional development and share good practice across the team.

You must hold a degree in a secondary subject specialism and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), with experience of teaching in secondary schools. You should be organised, enthusiastic, and committed to teacher development. Experience in mentoring or Initial Teacher Education (ITE) is desirable but not essential.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Karen McGrath at
