Summary
We are seeking a Media Relations & Communications – Lead Specialist to join our London office on a fixed-term contract to cover a maternity leave. This role offers the opportunity to execute on the firm's media relations, social media, and communications strategies in London. The key priorities of this role include regular outreach to key UK reporters in the legal industry, collaborating closely with our London lawyers and the global marketing team to execute public relations strategies that support practice and industry group objectives, managing the London office's social media, preparing awards and rankings submissions, handling e-mail marketing of content to key mailing lists, keeping certain London-related content on the external website up-to-date, and drafting content used in internal communications.
Responsibilities
Media Relations
- Assist with the development and execution of media relations and communications initiatives for the London office's practice and industry groups, with guidance from the Director of Marketing & Business Development in London and Media Relations Manager in New York.
- Maintain relationships with key UK journalists in the legal, national, and trade press. Arrange meetings between partners and journalists and monitor press opportunities.
- Arrange interviews with reporters and brief lawyers ahead of media opportunities.
- Monitor press coverage and track media activity.
Social Media
- Create and post content to the firm's social media channels. Support partners in updating and optimizing their LinkedIn profiles.
Email Marketing
- Distribute content to London mailing lists using the firm's email marketing program (currently Vuture).
Directory and Award Submissions
- Draft legal directory, rankings and award submissions.
Website Content
- Review and update external website content, ensuring lawyer bios and other materials are current.
Internal Communications
- Draft updates for internal newsletter to showcase achievements and support firm-wide projects.
Qualifications
- Degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or a related field.
- 4+ years' experience in a media relations/communications role, ideally within a law firm or at an agency with legal or professional services clients.
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
- Strong technical skills, including with social media, Canva, and email marketing software (familiarity with Vuture a plus).
- Some existing media contacts in the London legal or professional services press and strong desire to build additional relationships.
- Proactive, organised, and confident working with stakeholders at different levels.
- Able to manage media relations activities independently in the London office, while being fully integrated into the broader London team and with the Media Relations Manager and Media Relations Specialist in New York.
