We're looking for a Senior Manager, Media Relations and External Communications to join our team in London, UK

Liberty Global is looking for a senior all-round communicator to manage media relations and proactively create compelling content across a variety of formats, to protect and enhance the company's reputation and ensure our story is clearly understood. The successful candidate will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and possess strong stakeholder management skills. They will have a forensic eye for detail as well as the ability to connect the dots and see the bigger picture in a complex global organization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Help shape and lead Liberty Global's media relations strategy to support key business priorities
  • Search out stories from within the business and turn them into compelling content across a range of different formats – both earned and owned
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key journalists covering Liberty Global across major media outlets including the Financial Times, Bloomberg, Reuters, and industry publications
  • Coordinate media briefings, interviews, and press events for senior Liberty Global executives, including preparation of briefing materials and message development
  • Support senior executive media training and preparation for external speaking platforms, interviews, and media appearances
  • Manage reactive media inquiries and coordinate appropriate company responses and statements
  • Manage the monitoring of media coverage and provide real-time press updates to senior stakeholders with analysis and insights on Liberty Global coverage and competitive positioning
  • Lead press release development, distribution, and follow-up activities to maximize media coverage and message amplification
  • Coordinate press activities around major company announcements, product launches, technological developments and corporate milestones
  • Oversee the tracking and analysis of press coverage effectiveness and media sentiment to optimize media relations strategies
  • Support crisis communications response including media monitoring, message development, and stakeholder coordination during reputational challenges
  • Develop crisis communication protocols and response procedures for press relations activities
  • Coordinate with senior leadership and legal teams during sensitive issues requiring careful media management
  • Monitor potential reputational threats and provide early warning analysis with recommended media response strategies
  • Support issue management through proactive media engagement and relationship building
  • Help manage relationships with external PR agencies and communications consultants supporting Liberty Global's press relations activities
  • Coordinate agency deliverables including media monitoring, press coverage analysis, and campaign execution support
  • Evaluate and select media relations tools, platforms, and service providers to enhance media relations capabilities
  • Collaborate with OpCos and other Liberty Global-owned communications teams to ensure consistent messaging and coordinated earned and owned media approach across markets
  • Support internal communications team with external press considerations and message alignment
  • Coordinate with corporate affairs and regulatory teams on media relations aspects of policy and regulatory communications
  • Support investor relations team with media considerations around financial communications and earnings coverage

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential Requirements:

  • Relevant years experience in media relations, media management, or communications roles within corporate or agency environments
  • Proven track record of media relations success including journalist relationship building and press coverage generation
  • Strong understanding of media landscape including print, digital, broadcast, and industry publications
  • Experience with crisis communications and issue management in corporate environment
  • Excellent writing skills for press materials including press releases, media statements, and briefing documents, as well as longer-form thought leadership pieces and social media posts
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage multiple media priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively with AI tools to improve the communications process

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technology, telecommunications, or media industry experience with understanding of technical concepts and industry dynamics
  • Experience managing external PR agencies and communications consultants
  • Knowledge of media monitoring tools, press analytics platforms, and communications measurement
  • Experience with financial communications and regulatory press relations
  • International media relations experience across European markets
