The Temporary Deputy Manager supports the Home Manager in delivering safe, high-quality, person-centred care while overseeing staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining operational standards.

Job Summary

The Temporary Deputy Manager will assist the Home Manager in the daily operation of the care home, ensuring residents receive safe, dignified, and responsive care. The role combines visible leadership on the floor with administrative compliance, supporting staff development, service standards, and quality improvement initiatives.

This is a temporary position, between 6 and 12 months requiring flexibility to cover absences and ensure continuous high-quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities Leadership and Management

  • Act as the Manager in the absence of the Home Manager, providing full operational coverage.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support care staff, promoting best practice and high morale
  • Lead shifts, providing hands-on care guidance, coaching, and performance management
  • Participate in recruitment, induction, training, and appraisal of staff
  • Facilitate effective communication between staff, residents, families, and external agencies
  • Support the current turn around manager to complete part of the action plan required for Hillsborough residential home.

Care Delivery and Compliance

  • Ensure delivery of person-centred care aligned with resident needs, values, and choice
  • Oversee care plans, risk assessments, and regular reviews to maintain standards and compliance
  • Monitor medication administration, infection control, safeguarding, and health & safety adherence
  • Support CQC, local authority inspections, and internal audits, preparing records and reports as required

Operational Responsibilities

  • Assist in rota planning to meet service demands
  • Manage service delivery efficiently, ensuring staffing, equipment, and facilities meet regulatory standards
  • Contribute to service development, continuous improvement, and the adoption of organisational policies

Person-Centred and Community Focus

  • Maintain engagement with residents, families, advocates, and other professionals to ensure high quality of life and support independence
  • Promote activities and therapeutic opportunities enhancing residents' physical, emotional, and social wellbeing

Skills and Experience

  • Level 3 Diploma/NVQ in Health & Social Care or equivalent; Level 5/leadership qualification desirable
  • Previous experience in a senior care or deputy manager role within a care home or health/social care setting
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in electronic care record systems and MS Office/Google Workspace
  • Knowledge of CQC regulations, MCA/DoLS, safeguarding procedures, health & safety legislation, and relevant care standards

  • Direct line management of care staff, team leaders, and support staff

Performance Metrics

  • Quality & compliance audits, CQC inspection outcomes, timely completion of care plans
  • Staff development, training compliance, supervision, and appraisal completion
  • Resident safety, wellbeing outcomes, and family satisfaction
  • Operational efficiency: staffing, rota adherence, incident resolution, and budget management

This temporary Deputy Manager role is suited for highly motivated individuals with leadership experience in social care who can balance administrative duties with visible clinical leadership, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and foster a positive, person-centred culture within Hillsborough residential care home

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 6 months

Pay: Up to £2,000.00 per month
