Consultant - Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon

NHS Dumfries & Galloway are currently recruiting for a Consultant ENT Surgeon as a result of service developments.

You will be integral to the delivery of an ENT service to the Dumfries and Galloway region (population 148,000). Out-patient clinics are undertaken at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI) and the Galloway Community Hospital (GCH) in Stranraer. Elective surgery is performed at DGRI and some minor elective surgery is performed at GCH.

The successful candidate will create a team of two Consultants, a Specialty Doctor and two GP trainees. Consultant ENT Surgeons will provide 1 in 2 on call during week days and weekend cover is provided by Ayrshire's ENT Department. On Call attracts an 8% availability supplement, occasional prospective cover is at additional on call rates. The team will provide adult and paediatric services and we will be looking for complementary sub-specialist interests. Otology experience would be desirable.

  • Out-patient, elective and emergency ENT services
  • Specialist Clinics (Head, Neck, Voice, Paediatrics and Audio)
  • Supervision and training of junior medical staff
  • Multi-disciplinary meetings

Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary is a District General Hospital based on the western outskirts of the town. The hospital provides high quality clinical care to the population of Dumfries and Galloway in a modern environment.

The region offers beautiful countryside, from rugged cliffs and sandy beaches to forests, hills and rolling plains. There is a wide range of activities on offer, water sports, fishing, bird watching, golf, mountain-biking or cycling along the network of rural roads and much more. House prices are low, schools are good and you are within 2 hours of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lake District and Newcastle.

Prospective candidates will require being on the GMC Specialist Register and holding a CCT or be within 6 months of obtaining the certificate, or will be an established Consultant ENT Surgeon.
