Finance Manager - Risk and Controls
London, 3 days per week in office
£68,000 - £88,000
At Wise our mission is Money Without Borders – instant, convenient, transparent and eventually free.

As we continue to grow and scale, we're looking for an experienced professional to join our Finance Risk and Controls team. Your work will be instrumental in strengthening our internal control environment, monitoring and reporting, and helping the business achieve its mission in line with the US SOX requirements.

You'll do this through working closely with our finance, product and operations teams to implement process mapping for all key SOX controls; implementing best practice in this field to ensure we can identify which processes are most manually intensive or operationally risky, to help identify which processes should be prioritised for automation.

This role provides an excellent platform for someone looking to step into the finance function of Wise.

Your Mission

  • Support the ongoing maintenance and change management of our end to end process flows and key risks and controls.
  • Understand and guide the teams on implementation of the requirements as per the US SOX and other relevant local regulations.
  • Assist in building a testing programme to independently assess controls to identify gaps and implement remediation plans. Perform and review control testing, including test of design, test of effectiveness and test of remediation.
  • Effectively support and challenge the Finance teams on their journey to evolve and mature our risk and control environment.
  • Partner with both finance and non-finance teams as needed to address risks and controls related to their respective teams.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including finance teams, Risk and Internal Audit, to establish standards, policies, and develop KRIs for measuring and monitoring risks on a continuous basis

The Role Will Give You The Opportunity To

  • Own your own path to success – You'll have a high level of autonomy and responsibility.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of Wise's business - Get to know many teams across finance and the business as you partner with them to help them implement a risk and control culture.
  • Grow with the role – You will have the exposure and opportunity to speak to key senior members of the organisation getting into the details of remediation steps. You will be able to develop your leadership skills by managing delivery of remediation points with contacts across the business.
  • Stepping stone - This role provides an excellent platform for someone looking to step into the finance function of a fast growing Fintech.

Qualifications
A bit about you:

  • Theory - You have a professional accounting qualification such as the ACA, CPA or equivalent (ACCA, CPA Australia, CIA) with proven post qualification experience in the field of Risk and Controls / Internal Audit.
  • Practice - You have demonstrable experience managing stakeholders (internal and external), understanding, documenting and validating the appropriateness of internal controls, and responding to external and internal audit queries / findings.
  • Love getting things done - You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and take responsibility - you will relish the opportunity to implement and own an inventory of process maps covering our key controls.
  • Commercial acumen - You understand the value of taking a balanced approach to risk and controls to support the growth of the business.
  • Collaborative - You work well in a multinational team environment, and know how to have an impact through others. No Drama Good Karma

Additional Information

Our Finance team is spread across the globe, but mainly in London, Tallinn and Budapest so there are a lot of video calls and potentially some travel involved for finance wide initiatives (potentially once or twice a year).

Where and what you studied isn't important to us. If you've got great experience, the right skills for the role and you're great at articulating your thinking, we'd like to hear from you.

For everyone, everywhere. We're people building money without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We believe teams are strongest when they are diverse, equitable and inclusive.

We're proud to have a truly international team, and we celebrate our differences.

Inclusive teams help us live our values and make sure every Wiser feels respected, empowered to contribute towards our mission and able to progress in their careers.
