Job Overview
Cornerways Homes is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Residential Care Worker to join our dedicated team supporting children and young people aged 11–17 in our small, family-style residential homes.
As a Senior, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the home, supporting the team, and leading by example in delivering high-quality, trauma-informed care. You will work closely with the Home Manager and Deputy Manager to provide structure, consistency, and positive outcomes for the young people in our care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead shifts and ensure all daily routines and care plans are implemented effectively.
- Provide direct support and supervision to Residential Care Workers, offering guidance and role modelling best practice.
- Build trusting, nurturing relationships with children and young people, promoting safety, stability, and independence.
- Manage challenging behaviours using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are always followed and concerns are reported appropriately.
- Contribute to care planning, reviews, and key working sessions to promote individual development.
- Maintain clear, professional, and accurate records and reports.
- Support with staff induction, training, and supervision as required.
- Assist with rota planning and ensure appropriate staff coverage on each shift.
- Work in partnership with families, social workers, education providers, and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for young people.
Experience and Skills
- Experience working with children or young people in a residential care setting is essential.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and behaviour management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Calm, confident, and resilient approach to supporting children with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is required.
- Level 4 Diploma (or willingness to work towards) is desirable.
- Full UK driving licence (preferred).
- First aid training and medication administration experience are advantageous.
