Requirements of Assistant Cook

NVQ Level 2 in Catering.

Food Hygiene Regulations.

Operation of kitchen equipment.

COSHH / Health and Safety.

A flexible attitude to the job role is a must, in order to deliver a quality service to our residents.

Previous experience of working in a care home setting is essential, with knowledge of IDDSI.

The post is subject to satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure.

Responsibilities of Assistant Cook

  • Deliver a varied menu of nutritious, well-balanced, attractive meals that meet Service User's individual needs.
  • Assist the Cook in ensuring adequate Kitchen staff are available and plan staff schedules to meet needs.
  • Supervises kitchen team in the safe handling and storage of food, use of equipment, COSHH and the use of cleaning materials, ensuring all regulations are adhered to.
  • Ensures temperature testing of foods and storage areas are carried out as required and records are maintained.
  • Helps the Cook to carry out stock takes and ordering of catering consumables from approved suppliers ensuring it is within agreed budget.
  • Implements and maintains an effective cleaning schedule whilst in charge of the kitchen.

Weekend availability is necessary - we operate a rotating shift pattern

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £15.40 per hour

Expected hours: 37 per week
