*About The Role*
Are you passionate about data protection, compliance, and driving a culture of information security? We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Information Governance and Compliance to lead our Information Governance team and ensure the Council's information assets are managed securely, efficiently, and in line with all statutory, regulatory, and best practice requirements.
As the Council's subject matter expert, you will be responsible for embedding and evolving our Information Governance Framework, supporting the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO), Caldicott Guardian, and Data Protection Officer (DPO), and representing the Council in external forums and joint projects. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our digital future, ensuring compliance, and fostering a culture where information governance is everyone's responsibility.
*Key Responsibilities*
- Lead, develop, and manage the Information Governance team, ensuring high standards of service and professional development.
- Oversee the Council's Information Governance Framework, ensuring it is robust, up-to-date, and meets current and future needs.
- Provide expert advice on data protection, information security, and compliance to all departments and senior stakeholders.
- Support the SIRO, Caldicott Guardian, and DPO in discharging their statutory responsibilities.
- Represent the Council in external information governance groups and joint projects.
- Develop and deliver strategies, policies, and training to promote a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and respond to changes in legislation, regulation, and best practice, ensuring the Council remains compliant and resilient.
- Lead on incident management, risk assessment, and business continuity planning for information governance.
*About You*
- Proven experience in a senior information governance, data protection, or compliance role, ideally within the public sector.
- In-depth knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act, and related legislation.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop others.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Strategic thinker with a track record of delivering change and embedding best practice.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM, or similar) are desirable.
