Summary of Purpose

Ensures all Body and Paint, and Smart Repair preparation work is carried out in an efficient and safe manner, to meet customer requirements and maximise utilisation and productivity. Measures and hits agreed preparation turnaround times for internal and retail work

Leads and manages the departments activity to deliver profitability and high customer satisfaction. Plans and co-ordinates the Centre's Body and Paint department to meet customer requirements and maximise sales volumes, booking volumes, margins and overall profitability.

Main responsibilities and duties

Leads the Body and Paint Team

  • Ensures all members of the Body and paint team understand the implications of the Toyota Experience for their role and monitors performance against agreed targets (E.G efficiency)
  • Leads the team by personally demonstrating and encouraging the skills and behaviours associated with Toyota and John Roe standards
  • Ensures that the Body and Paint team work closely with colleagues in Sales, Parts and Administration to deliver excellent customer service

Manages performance to achieve key targets and deliver continuous improvement

  • Manages the day to day operations of the Body and Paint Department to ensure the achievement of key targets (e.g. efficiency, prep times, quote conversions and accuracy) using approved processes and trackers
  • Ensures the Body and Paint team follow key processes in day-to-day working including workshop team with quotation and use of Auto-pad quotation process
  • Continuously reviews and improves Body and Paint processes and systems to deliver increased levels of customer satisfaction whilst maximising profitability and quality of workmanship
  • Works with colleagues across the Centre to investigate and resolve customer complaints

Manages and develops individuals

  • Monitors staff training needs, ensuring training and development plans are in place and up to date for all members of the team
  • Works with individuals to address performance issues e.g. by providing coaching
  • Assesses potential recruits for the Body and Paint team

Provides advice and sign-off on key issues

  • Manages approved sub-contract Body Shop processes and operations
  • Design local promotions, negotiating with local suppliers to achieve the best possible terms and monitors results accordingly
  • Manages the marketing activity of the Body and Paint team e.g. to ensure that contact is maintained with lapsed customers
  • Plans and manages resource requirements e.g. consumables, materials and specialist tools
  • Agrees goodwill gestures and customer discounts

Provides support to less experienced colleagues

  • Coaches and supports apprentice Body and Paint technicians
  • Provides assistance and guidance to colleagues who are less skilled or knowledgeable about a particular vehicle or technology
  • Ensure and monitors training for all Body and Paint Team members using the Academy system.
  • Ensure all training standards and requirements are met in line with TGB standards for compliance.

Attends regular training to update technical skills

  • Attends specialised training as required

Works as a full member of the Centre team

  • Works with colleagues and other teams across the Centre to provide a seamless service to customers (e.g. by informally observing and responding to the needs of customers who are not being attended to by other members of staff)
  • Acts as a full member of the Centre's management team to take the business forward
  • Ensures opportunities for sales by other teams are followed up by the most appropriate specialist
  • Reports on technical problems using appropriate procedures

Essential

  • Previous Bodyshop manager experience in a car dealership environment

  • Ability to lead, drive and motivate a large team

  • Previous experience of working to and successfully achieving targets

  • Good standard of education with a qualification in Maths and English

  • Excellent communication, administrative and organisational skills

  • Excellent customer service/people skills delivering services to high standards

  • Polite, calm and approachable persona

  • Must be a team player

  • Ability to work on own initiative or with minimum supervision

  • Must have flexible 'can do' approach
