Role profile

  • Work with colleagues within the Learning and Teaching Academy and across the University to contribute to the delivery of key strategic objectives relating to digital education and enhancement o the student experience.
  • Take a lead on technology-enhanced learning projects/initiatives designed to enhance the student learning experience from inception to final delivery and evaluation.
  • Provide responsive, solutions-focused advice, guidance and support as a member of the Digital Education Support Hub, working as a member of the team to respond to operational queries from academic and professional services staff across the University.
  • Provide pedagogical advice, guidance and support to develop expertise and best practice in the adoption and application of appropriate learning tools and technologies that enhance curricula and ensure an excellent learning experience for students.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate high quality resources, guides, materials, case studies and online, blended and face-to-face continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities on themes relating to digital education.
  • Create high quality online resources that are accessible and meet the needs of academic staff and/or students and that demonstrate best practice in technology enhanced learning
  • Lead on and support a range of events and activities that aim to promote, showcase and develop best practice in digital education.
  • Support the University in the roll-out of new learning technology systems as well as the embedding of existing technologies (such as Panopto, Xerte, Blackboard, Mentimeter).
  • Continually monitor developments and innovations related to effective and innovative use of technology within the higher education sector, keeping up to date with new ideas, technologies or processes relevant to education and applying these as appropriate to University projects
  • Actively engage in internal and external networks, including communities of practice in technology-enhanced learning.
  • Support the delivery of blended and distance learning programmes at UG and PG level.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate.
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, EC directives and the University's Safety, Health and Environment Policies and procedures and to co-operate with the University on any legal duties placed on it as the employer.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education

  • Degree/NVQ 5 or equivalent Professional experience in Learning Technology, Information Technology or Education related disciplines.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Substantial experience of working within learning technology support

  • Able to demonstrate professional knowledge within learning technology to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers

  • Ability to set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate

  • Demonstrable knowledge of key advances and developments within learning technology and application to own work

Customer Service, Communication and Team Working

  • Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people, with experience of delivering training in the use of learning technology

  • Evidence of ability to explore customers' needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered

Planning, Analysis and Problem solving

  • Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with a range of potential outcomes
  • Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work and that of others and monitoring progress.

Other

  • A willingness to undertake further training and development as required by the role
