At Smith+Nephew, we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living
Are you passionate about driving innovation and efficiency in manufacturing?
We're seeking an
Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager
to lead our operations team in Hull. In this pivotal role, you'll guide engineering strategy, champion lean principles, and develop a high-performing team of both seasoned engineers and emerging talent. If you thrive in a hands-on environment and bring expertise in continuous improvement, this is your opportunity to shape the future of manufacturing.
What will you be doing?
Imagine stepping into a role where your leadership transforms how things are made. As our Engineering Manager based in Hull, you'll be at the center of our operations—driving smarter, faster, and more efficient manufacturing processes.
Your day might begin with a walk through the production floor, engaging with engineers and apprentices, observing value streams, and identifying opportunities to reduce waste. You'll collaborate across design, quality, supply chain, and maintenance to ensure every product we launch is innovative, scalable, and manufacturable with excellence.
You'll lead the development and optimisation of tools, equipment, and processes—always with a focus on safety, quality, and cost. Whether it's applying Six Sigma to solve a complex challenge or mentoring your team, your impact will be felt in every corner of our operation.
From planning capital investments to driving year-on-year efficiency gains, you'll be a key player in shaping how we work today—and how we'll work tomorrow.
What will you need to be successful?
Success in this role means being a visible, hands-on leader—someone who doesn't just identify opportunities for improvement but turns them into measurable results. You'll be known for driving productivity gains, reducing process waste, and fostering a culture of safety, quality, and efficiency.
You'll be the go-to expert for lean manufacturing and Six Sigma, using data and insight to solve complex challenges and lead continuous improvement initiatives. Your ability to collaborate across functions will ensure smooth product launches and robust, scalable processes.
You'll also be a mentor and technical guide—developing both experienced engineers and emerging talent, and building a team that thrives on accountability, innovation, and growth.
Successful candidates would need the following:
- Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, with a solid understanding of lean principles and continuous improvement practices
- Accreditation in Lean and/or Six Sigma (Black Belt preferred), or equivalent hands-on experience applying these methodologies to real-world challenges
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of guiding cross-functional teams and mentoring others in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated leadership experience, with a passion for developing talent and building high-performing engineering teams
