About the role The Operational Risk team plays a central role in ensuring that the Bank is aware of and pro-actively managing all the risks that could damage our customers, our regulatory standing, our resilience and our financial performance.
As an Operational Risk Analyst, you'll play a critical role in helping every department in the business to identify, assess and manage their risks and issues. As part of a relatively new team, you'll also have opportunities to design and shape the approach and processes used to effectively complete these tasks.
To complement the skills and experience already within the team, we're looking for someone with the experience or skills and knowledge needed to support and challenge our IT team's thinking on technology and cyber related risks and controls. As part of the role, you will have the opportunity to also support our Prudential Risk, Credit Risk colleagues and to support Executive Risk Committees as Secretariat as a key contributor.
We're a small, friendly, pragmatic and outcome focused risk team who have the ability to make a real difference to the day-to-day operations and performance of the Bank. Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Oversight (60%)
  • Support Risk Owners to identify and assess risks and issues and to design and implement an appropriate control environment
  • Support Control Owners to design and implement effective controls, with a focus on increasing the use of automated preventative controls across the Bank
  • Undertake Control Testing and other Risk Assurance work as part of the firm's Integrated Assurance Plan
  • Provide challenge and oversight to Risk & Control Self-Assessments
  • Ensure Return to Appetite plans are appropriate and provide oversight and reporting on the delivery of these plans
  • Manage a Risk Acceptance process, providing ongoing oversight and reporting
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analysis exercises ensuring meaningful actions are agreed and delivered where appropriate
  • Provide risk and control input into strategic projects
  • Support Internal & External Audits as required
  • Provide input, challenge and oversight to all relevant Policies
  • Risk Maturity (20%)
  • Lead or support projects and initiatives to accelerate risk maturity within both the risk team and the Bank
  • Lead or support activities to enhance Risk Culture
  • Lead & coordinate Risk Training across the Operational, Prudential and Credit Risk teams
  • Lead improvements to Risk Reporting and Insight
  • Committee Support (20%)
  • Provide support to the Chief Risk Officer to ensure the Executive Risk Committee and
  • Board Risk Committee function effectively – pack co-ordination, minutes and actions.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Education & Certification:
  • A degree qualification or equivalent. In the absence of this, 3+ years' experience in a directly comparable role
  • Ideally, Cyber and Technology related academic qualifications or professional certificates
  • Skills:
  • Operational Risk Management skills – the ability to support and challenge the business across the full risk lifecycle (identification, assessment and management of risks and issues)
  • Cyber & Technology knowledge– cyber risk, technology related risks, the risks associated with the emergence of AI and automated decisioning
  • The ability to analyse large amounts of data and information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A proven ability to build value adding relationships with colleagues at all levels and across the breadth of a business
  • Mindset:
  • Someone with a 'can do' attitude who believes risk management is an enable to help the bank thrive
  • A natural curiosity and analytical approach – the ideal candidate will ask questions that other's are over-looking and bring new insight into internal discussions
