Engineering Manager | Central London

Our client is developing a platform that streamlines operations and connectivity for firms in the alternative investments space through an API-driven architecture. They are looking for an Engineering Manager to join their team.

The Role:

Define the technical roadmap: Lead the long-term vision for backend architecture and engineering standards across several development teams. Make high-impact decisions around scalability, reliability, and service boundaries to ensure the platform matures in a coherent and sustainable way.

Shape the microservices ecosystem: Steer the continued development of the microservices landscape, promoting strong principles of modular design, fault tolerance, monitoring, and maintainability throughout all teams.

Act as an engineering representative: Serve as the primary technical voice in cross-department discussions. Clearly communicate reasoning, trade-offs, and technical considerations to audiences ranging from highly technical to completely non-technical.

Key Skills and Experience:

Extensive engineering background: Over a decade of hands-on experience, with deep knowledge of contemporary, service-oriented system design.

Demonstrated technical leadership: A track record of guiding several engineering teams in the design, development, and operation of large, distributed platforms.

Cloud-native expertise: Strong familiarity with cloud ecosystems, especially AWS and Kubernetes, including monitoring, deployment workflows, and cost-efficient operation.

Exceptional communicator: Able to collaborate effectively across disciplines, engaging confidently with technical teams, product partners, and non-technical stakeholders.

Technologies:

Back-end: Java 21, Spring Boot, REST, Postgres/Jooq/Flyway, JUnit/TestContainers/Mockito, AWS (EC2, RDS, Cognito, S3, KMS), Containerization (Docker / kubernetes)

Front-end: TypeScript, React, and Tailwind CSS
