What You'll Do
Viasat UK is seeking to expand its UK Data At Rest operations team to support the delivery of existing products as well as the introduction of new products. As part of this expansion a versatile Quality Engineer is required to work across multiple Cyber and Information Assurance projects.

Joining Viasat UK means successful candidates will have the unique opportunity to work on the development of leading-edge products and applications within the security and Cyber industry.

The role is based in our Farnborough office, but candidates must be able to travel to our remote manufacturing location when required.

Employees must be capable of obtaining (or already hold) security clearance to work on UK Government projects.

The day-to-day

  • Support the Quality Manager deliver specific elements of the quality improvement road map.
  • Assist in the ongoing maintenance and certification of Viasat UKs management systems to AS9100, ISO14001, ISO45001 and ISO27001. Ensuring compliance with our certified standards and any project specific Quality requirements.
  • Assist, own, and support all internal and external audit (customer, supplier and third-party awarding bodies).
  • Lead the implementation of specific, focused 'Quality Improvement Projects' to deliver year-on-year Quality, Cost and Delivery performance (QCD) improvements, utilizing KPI analysis, Pareto, FMEA and other relevant tools and techniques.
  • Support supplier and customer scorecard quality performance for the purpose of implementing and driving continuous improvement in the supply chain. Ensuring (where possible) the supply chain fully conforms and is compliant with the Business Management System.
  • Supporting the successful implementation and delivery of specific Advanced Production Quality Plans for New Product Introduction.
  • Support the Quality Manager and wider team during Gate reviews, ensuring project deliverables and compliance are being met.
  • Become a DoA for Configuration Management, with PRN approvals and sign offs.
  • Run the Obsolescence Management process, being the point of contact internally and externally for Obs management.
  • Map processes and where necessary utilize techniques such as DFMEA, VSM, PFMEA's and Control Plans etc. to create new processes or improve the old ones.
  • Preparation and submission of specific Quality Approval documentation both internally and externally.
  • Work closely with Procurement, Engineering. Manufacturing and Project Management on all quality related outputs.
  • Approving new suppliers, products, and services in line with Company procedures.
  • Lead all activities associated with specific non-conforming product containment incidents, identifying root causes and ensuring robust and rigorous problem resolution.
  • Analysis and reporting of customer returns/rejections in line with internal RMA process, KPI's and customer expectation.
  • Support design reviews and cost estimation activities as necessary, focusing on DFA and DFM.
  • Deliver annual objectives set by functional manager.

What You'll Need

  • Extensive knowledge of measurement techniques along with the ability to conduct and/or arrange completion of part inspection activities as required.
  • Experienced in the use of business improvement tools and techniques (5s, Lean, Kaizen etc.).
  • Experience of utilising APQP tools and techniques.
  • Experienced with PPAP/FAIR submission documentation.
  • Experienced in the use and construction of PFMEA's and Control Plans.
  • Extensive experience in the use of statistical analysis, process capability and problem resolution tools (8D, 5 Why, 6 Sigma etc) and techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of AS9100 is a minimum requirement. Exposure to ISO14001, ISO45001, and ISO27001 would be advantageous.
  • A team player with the ability to work on own initiative, and able to influence others by demonstrating a positive "can do" attitude and attention to detail
  • Implementing supplier development plans with a proven track record of delivering measurable improvement in supplier performance.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work at pace in a multi-project environment.
  • Experience with Configuration Management control.
  • UK national with the. ability to obtain SC clearance or higher.

What Will Help You On The Job

  • Minimum HNC/Degree in Engineering or Business-related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Experience gained in a manufacturing quality or supply chain quality environment, preferably in Defence, Aerospace, Automotive or similar sectors.
  • Experience in low and high-volume manufacturing environments. PCB manufacturing would be beneficial
