In a Nutshell:
You will be responsible for leading and supporting a team of warehouse operatives in delivering efficient, safe, and accurate warehouse operations. The Team Leader is responsible for ensuring daily targets are met, standards are maintained, and the team is motivated and compliant with company policies and procedures.
You must be able to cover all shifts as part of your contract to enable holiday, sickness, business needs cover. You must also be able to work overtime where required and overtime is mandatory for Stock Take.
Key Responsibility's:
DELIVERY
- Operational Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of warehouse operatives across assigned shift.
- Allocate tasks and monitor performance to ensure productivity and accuracy targets are met.
- Ensure timely completion of inbound and outbound activities.
- Support shift handovers with clear communication and documentation.
- Manage and maintain stock accuracy across the Warrington warehouses.
- Conduct regular stock checks of product codes, ensuring alignment with system records.
- Investigate and report any stock variances to the Team Manager/Stock Controller.
- Oversee picking and packing operations to ensure accuracy and efficiency, carrying out audits where required.
- Troubleshoot system errors, picking discrepancies, and incomplete orders, providing timely solutions to ensure KPIs are met.
- Investigate unpicked or short-shipped orders, resolve issues, and release back orders to meet deadlines.
- Locate stock discrepancies where items are shown on the system but not physically available in the pick face.
- Prioritise orders within the system when requested ("bumping") to meet customer and business requirements.
- Provide excellent support to the internal sales team on stock and order queries.
- Ensure all waste is disposed of in line with the WEEE Directive, using only approved waste contractors.
- Support Team Managers with administrative tasks, including attendance management, timekeeping, and customer delivery calendar updates.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), providing feedback to management and recommending corrective actions where needed.
- Step up to cover Team Manager responsibilities during periods of absence.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Warehouse Shift Manager.
- Act as the point of contact for internal departments during the shift.
- Respond to queries and requests professionally and promptly through the warehouse administration post.
- Communicate shift updates, issues, and achievements to management.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce errors, and support operational excellence.
HEALTH & SAFETY
- Conduct daily safety checks and ensure compliance with H&S regulations through adherence to SSOW, RA and ensuring training principles are carried out.
- Promote a safety-first culture and ensure team members use PPE correctly.
- Report and escalate any incidents, near misses, or hazards.
- Support completion of risk assessments and return-to-work interviews.
- Act as a Fire Marshal, First Aider, and Drug & Alcohol Tester as required.
- Provide a Warehouse environment that operates efficiently to achieve offloading, picking, packing, and dispatch of our products to achieve our targets for the satisfaction of our customers.
- Create a safe working environment.
COMPLIANCE & STANDARDS
- Ensure hygiene and housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the shift.
- Monitor adherence to SOPs and company policies.
- Support audits and stock checks as required.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT SUPPORT & DEVELOPMENT
- Assist Team Managers in building and maintaining strong working relationships across all levels of the business, ensuring effective and regular communication with Managers, Sales, and support functions.
- Support Team Managers in promoting participation in the Company's people-focused initiatives, encouraging personal growth and development.
- Work with Team Managers to foster a positive workplace culture where employees feel valued, engaged, and motivated.
- Provide on-the-job training and coaching to team members.
- Support new starters and temporary staff with induction and onboarding.
- Address performance issues constructively and escalate where necessary.
- Escalate significant operational or staffing issues promptly to management, offering suggested solutions.
- Support succession planning by identifying potential talent within the team and recommending development opportunities.
- Encourage team feedback and ideas to improve engagement and operational performance.
Are you right for us?
Our Team Leader will have/be:
- Good level of general education.
- FLT licence or willingness to complete.
- Experience of working within a high-volume warehouse.
- Experience of participating in process improvement activities against a clear set of objectives
- Experience of supervising or coaching team members, including agency staff.
- Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and work cross functionally.
- Understanding and use of Quality Principles, Continuous Improvement, 5S and other associated tools & techniques.
- Budgetary control and basic understanding of warehouse measures.
- Computer-literate, being fully conversant with MS Excel, Word.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Able to gain the respect and engagement of others.
- Able to operate confidently and communicate effectively at all levels, both verbally and in a written form
- Professional in approach, and able to lead by example, acting with tact and diplomacy.
- Comfortable using equipment related to the movement of heavy items.
- Must have a "Can Do" attitude at all times
- Resilient under pressure, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing operational needs (e.g., shift patterns, workload spikes).
- Committed to learning and self-development
- Additional training such as First Aid, Fire Marshal, or Drug & Alcohol testing.
- Supervisory or leadership training/qualification, or willingness to complete (Desirable)
- Previous experience in a Warehouse Team Leader Role (Desirable)
- Familiar with the technology of Luminaire (Desirable)
- Knowledge of Quality Management System ISO Desirable)
- 8D or similar system (Desirable)
- Knowledge of WEE Directive (Desirable)
- Ability to use or willingness to train on Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) (Desirable)
- Completer-finisher with strong attention to detail (Desirable)
