Location: Hybrid (office-based and remote working) This is a hybrid role, with travel to learners and COPA sites expected. We welcome applicants from North Wales and North West England.
Salary: up to £30,000 Hours: 37.5 Hours per week
This role is pivotal in ensuring that every learner feels safe, supported, and engaged throughout their journey with us, whether they're on an Apprenticeship, attending a Bootcamp, or taking part in another programme.
We're looking for someone with:
- Established networks across England to enable effective support and signposting for learners
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and Prevent Duty
- Familiarity with Ofsted requirements and quality standards
- Experience in pastoral support and learner wellbeing

Position Overview: -The Learner Wellbeing and Engagement Officer ensures learner safety, wellbeing, progress and engagement. The role strengthens safeguarding compliance, enhances pastoral care, oversees Prevent and British Values delivery, and supports staff and learners through high-quality, responsive, learner-centred interventions.
The postholder plays an integral role in ensuring learners remain on track, barriers to learning are identified early, and that tailored support plans and preventative measures are implemented. Additionally, the role supports the design and delivery of bespoke safeguarding, Prevent and wellbeing-related training.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding, Prevent & Pastoral Support
- Act as a key safeguarding contact, supporting the DSL and deputising where appropriate.
- Provide timely, empathetic and solution-focused pastoral support to learners experiencing personal, emotional, mental health or welfare concerns.
- Conduct structured wellbeing check-ins and maintain regular contact with learners who require ongoing support.
- Implement early intervention strategies to prevent learner disengagement.
- Lead on Prevent Duty awareness, ensuring learners understand risks such as radicalisation, extremism and online grooming.
- Promote British Values, online safety and positive citizenship through learner sessions, resources and curriculum input.
- Maintain high-quality safeguarding documentation, case notes and action plans in line with legislation and internal standards.
- Liaise with external agencies including social services, mental health teams, police and community organisations.
Learner Progress & Tracking
- Monitor learner attendance, engagement and progression, identifying risks early and coordinating targeted support.
- Work with tutors and assessors to develop personalised support strategies for at-risk learners.
- Conduct learner progress reviews focused on wellbeing, motivation and removal of barriers to learning.
- Produce learner support plans and track interventions, ensuring timely follow-up and impact measurement.
- Support the development of inclusive learning environments that encourage retention, achievement and progression.
Staff Training, CPD & Development
- Deliver high-quality training on safeguarding, Prevent, British Values and emerging risks.
- Provide specialist guidance for staff on managing disclosures, professional boundaries and safe working practices.
- Support the induction of new staff members, ensuring they understand safeguarding expectations and escalation procedures.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of safeguarding resources, e-learning materials and in-house CPD.
Curriculum, Quality & Bespoke Training Delivery
- Embed safeguarding, Prevent, learner wellbeing and pastoral themes across curriculum materials and learning programmes.
- Develop and deliver bespoke workshops or micro-learning sessions tailored to learner needs (e.g., mental health awareness, healthy relationships, digital safety, anti-bullying).
- Review and quality-assure teaching and learning resources to ensure compliance and relevance.
- Support teaching and learning observations, providing coaching or feedback where safeguarding considerations arise.
Learner Engagement & Voice
- Build strong, trusting relationships with learners to encourage open communication.
- Lead learner engagement initiatives including forums, surveys, feedback campaigns and focus groups.
- Facilitate employer engagement forums, ensuring safeguarding expectations are communicated clearly.
- Analyse learner voice data and contribute to quality improvement planning.
Operational & Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate safeguarding records, adhering to GDPR and confidentiality policies.
- Produce regular reports for senior leaders, external partners and Ofsted.
- Contribute to policy development and review processes.
- Support the organisation's commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications & Experience: Essential
- Level 3 Safeguarding qualification.
- Experience working in safeguarding or pastoral support roles.
- Knowledge of safeguarding legislation, Prevent Duty and wider welfare guidance.
- Experience delivering training or group sessions.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Hold a full U.K. driving licence and has access to vehicle to travel to other sites as needed
Desirable
- Assessor qualification (TAQA, CAVA).
- Experience in apprenticeships, AEB or other funded training.
- Knowledge of Ofsted requirements and EIF.
- Experience working alongside employers or external agencies.
- Mental health first aid or counselling-related training.
