You will oversee the day-to-day management of the nursing home, including staff management, compliance with regulatory standards, and financial performance.
As the Nursing Home Manager, you will be responsible for creating a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment for residents while ensuring that the home operates efficiently and within budget. You will also be responsible for maintaining positive relationships with residents, their families, and external partners, while fostering a high-performance culture within the team.
Key Responsibilities:1. Leadership & Staff Management:
- Staff Supervision & Development: Recruit, train, supervise, and develop a high-performing team, ensuring all staff members adhere to care standards, policies, and procedures.
- Performance Management: Set clear performance expectations for staff and conduct regular performance appraisals to ensure team members meet and exceed care quality standards.
- Team Collaboration: Foster a positive, open, and supportive team culture, ensuring effective communication and collaboration between all departments.
- Training & Professional Development: Oversee the ongoing professional development of staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and qualifications to provide excellent care.
- Leadership Support: Act as a mentor and support system for staff, providing guidance and resolving conflicts when necessary.
2. Resident Care & Quality Assurance:
- Resident Welfare: Ensure that all residents receive high-quality, person-centered care that meets their individual needs and preferences.
- Care Plan Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and review of resident care plans, ensuring they are regularly updated and that care delivery is in line with individual needs.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies, such as the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and other local regulations.
- Quality Control: Lead continuous improvement initiatives to maintain or improve care standards and achieve outstanding CQC inspection results.
- Incident Management: Oversee the reporting, investigation, and resolution of incidents, accidents, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
3. Financial & Operational Management:
- Budgeting & Financial Oversight: Manage the nursing home's budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and the home operates within financial constraints.
- Cost Control: Implement strategies to control costs while maintaining a high standard of care.
- Operational Efficiency: Ensure the home operates efficiently on a day-to-day basis, including overseeing staffing levels, managing supplies, and ensuring all systems and processes are in place for smooth operations.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports to senior management on operational performance, financial status, and quality of care.
4. Regulatory Compliance & Health & Safety:
- Compliance with Legislation: Ensure the nursing home meets all legal and regulatory requirements, including CQC standards, health and safety laws, infection control policies, and safeguarding procedures.
- Policy & Procedure Development: Review and update home policies and procedures to align with current legislation, ensuring they are consistently followed by all staff.
- Risk Management: Identify and manage risks to ensure the safety of residents and staff. Proactively address potential risks and ensure that the home is safe and secure for all.
- Inspections & Audits: Lead the preparation for internal audits and external inspections (CQC, Health and Safety), ensuring the home is always inspection-ready.
5. Family & Community Relations:
- Resident & Family Liaison: Maintain strong relationships with residents and their families, providing regular updates on resident care and addressing any concerns or feedback.
- Community Engagement: Actively engage with the local community, representing the nursing home in a positive manner, and building strong partnerships with local healthcare providers, social services, and other stakeholders.
6. Marketing & Business Development:
- Marketing Strategy: Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the home and its services to potential residents and their families.
- Networking: Build strong relationships with external healthcare providers and referral sources to ensure the home is a first-choice provider in the local area.
- Admissions Process: Oversee the admissions process, ensuring that new residents are welcomed and that their care needs are fully assessed and met.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with an active NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) pin number OR a qualified Manager with experience in the care sector.
- Significant experience in a senior management or leadership role in a care home or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of CQC regulations and the ability to ensure the home meets or exceeds these standards.
- Experience in budgeting, financial management, and cost control.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage staff, deliver high-quality care, and meet performance targets.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and infection control protocols.
Desirable:
- Management qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Care, or equivalent).
- Experience in dementia care, palliative care, or other specialized areas.
- Additional qualifications in healthcare management, leadership, or business administration.
