The Pain Management Clinic is a 6 bedded day case unit that delivers a variety of treatments and clinics for patients with chronic pain.

You will join a small friendly team made up of Consultant Anaesthetists, Registered nurses, healthcare assistants and a dedicated administrative team.

You will take part in a variety of clinics working alongside others and independently.

The post holder will become a member of a specialised team delivering high standards of

care to a group of patients via a variety of methods.

You will be responsible for all aspects of patient care within the chronic pain management

setting.

The post encompasses a variety of roles, and you will be expected to be able to work both

as a team member and autonomously, as the workload dictates.

To actively support the department and the Trust to meet the requirements expected to

achieve the current vision and values.

Please Note: The Chronic Pain Management Service is under constant development.

Staff must be willing to expand their role as the service evolves.

Supporting Clinical Excellence

Develop evidence-based knowledge and skills in the management/strategies of chronic pain.

Participate in nurse led clinics.

Work with the acute pain service if required.

Actively contributes to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.

Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families/carers.

Be responsible for the assessment of care needs for your patients and the development of plans of care ensuring that these are evaluated and amended as appropriate.

Actively maintain and promote a safe clinic environment.

Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed Trust policies and guidelines.

Plan, develop and implement approaches to promote health and wellbeing of patients and improve their health status.

Maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently.

Responsible for safe supply, storage, administration, checking and disposal of medications, including controlled drugs in line with Trust policy and Nursing Midwifery Council standards.

Maintain detailed nursing documentation.

Assisting and contributing to the management and organisation of the clinical area.

Once competent in team management skills, take charge of the clinical area on a regular basis in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility or their deputy.

Leadership

Lead by example with drive and enthusiasm, responding appropriately to the needs of patients, families and carers.

Responsible for assisting with the management and leadership of the clinic, maintaining an appropriate style that promotes good morale, a team approach to work and a culture which fosters innovation and change.

Sets high standards of nursing care for the clinic, including clinic cleanliness, to ensure that the patients experience is excellent.

Influence people and events through successful communication, negotiation and persuasion skills.

Constructively challenge practices as necessary which impact patient care and/or staff wellbeing.

Work in partnership with the senior nurses to ensure the nursing strategy objectives are achieved.

Supporting Patient Excellence

In the absence of the Junior Sister/Sister act as a first point for patients, relatives and staff to address concerns and complaints.

To be courteous and helpful to patients, families/carers, colleagues and all users to the Trust. To act as a positive role model to the team.

Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families/carers.

Actively seek to ensure that patients, their relatives and carers engage with and understand their treatment plans.

Adopt an open learning culture from clinical incidents and patient/staff feedback.

Co-ordinate the patients' discharge arrangements in accordance with the Trust's Local Discharge Policy.
