Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom Scottish Water Full time £33,560 - £44,140 per year

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Business Analyst - Revenue (Fixed term / Secondment until May 2026)
We're looking for a talented and motivated
Business Analyst
to join our
Customer Revenue Billing Team
—a team at the heart of transforming how we deliver innovative, user-focused billing solutions. In this role, you'll be instrumental in driving forward enhancements to our systems, particularly through hands-on engagement with cloud updates in our CCS platform.

Your knowledge of finance, data, and process improvement will directly impact how our systems serve the business and our people. It's a chance to work on meaningful improvements, collaborate with skilled professionals from across Scottish Water, and develop your own expertise in a progressive, supportive environment. If you're someone who sees opportunity in every challenge and wants their work to be both valued and visible, you'll feel right at home here.

You'll play a key role in supporting User Acceptance Testing for our cloud updates. Working closely with stakeholders and IT, you'll help define test criteria, create test cases, and coordinate sessions—documenting any issues and helping to ensure a smooth deployment. In financial operations, you'll bring your skills in ledger reconciliations and billing to ensure accuracy and integrity in CCS processes, investigating discrepancies and proposing corrective actions where needed.

A big part of your day will involve identifying opportunities to improve and automate business processes. You'll analyse workflows, design technical and procedural enhancements, and deliver solutions that align with our strategic goals. Acting as a crucial link between our business teams, IT, and project leads, you'll ensure everyone's requirements are clearly documented and understood. Your ability to explain complex concepts to different audiences will be invaluable, as will your support with training and user guidance.

Quality assurance is also key. You'll monitor the progress of UAT, track results and risks, and follow up on the impact of improvements post-implementation to ensure we continue delivering value.

To thrive in this role, you'll bring solid financial acumen, particularly around accounting practices, reconciliations, and controls. You'll need to be confident working with data—able to hit the ground running even when unfamiliar with specific datasets. You'll have advanced Excel skills, and ideally some experience with Power BI and Power Automate.

Your analytical mindset will allow you to break down problems, pinpoint root causes, and communicate solutions clearly. You'll be highly organised, capable of managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes. You'll also be someone who enjoys working with others to bring about change—collaborative, inquisitive, and keen to keep learning.

Excellent communication skills are essential, as is a sharp eye for detail and a strong sense of ownership. You'll take responsibility, seek out improvements, and always strive to make processes more effective.

So if you're ready to make a difference in how we serve our customers and our colleagues, we'd love to hear from you. Bring your energy, curiosity, and commitment—and let's innovate together.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, we know it's not the only thing that matters. That's why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

You'll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.

For your future, there's our pension (the 'know-what-you'll-get-when-you-retire' kind), as well as life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 6. If you're new to Scottish Water, you'll join us on a starting salary of £33,560. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £44,140.

This role is a Fixed term / Secondment opportunity until May 2026.

We operate Balanced Hybrid working at Scottish Water and we encourage people to work half their time in a Scottish Water location.

If you're interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we'll be accepting applications until midnight on the 17th December.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don't worry - we'll only start these checks once you've accepted an offer.

A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you're interested in this job, but don't tick all the boxes, apply anyway We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don't rule yourself out

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We're very used to making adjustments, so please don't be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it's important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don't already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.

Please note, Scottish Water takes the safety, health and wellbeing of our employees, colleagues and customers very seriously and as such you may be subject to Drug & Alcohol testing in line with our policy.

Finally (finally), candidates who haven't submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won't need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.

We're here to help. Ask us anything
