The Opportunity
Avantor is seeking a detail-oriented, science-savvy
Sample Dispatch Technician
to join our team in
Cambridge, UK.
In this dynamic role, you'll play a key part in the global shipment of research samples, ensuring compliance with international regulations and supporting operational efficiency across both logistics and laboratory environments.

This hands-on role involves aliquoting scientific samples, managing dispatch activities, and helping allocate workload based on incoming service tickets. You'll be the go-to person for scientists' queries related to sample shipments and logistics coordination.

  • This role is primarily operational and involves both laboratory and logistics tasks, but does not include scientific research or experimentation. You'll spend 80% of your time completing logistics tasks, and 20% in the laboratory **

This full-time, permanent position is based at our brand-new facility at The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Alongside an attractive salary, we offer multiple benefits, including a bonus, pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an additional day off for your birthday.

Working hours:
Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 17:00

The Team
You'll be part of a collaborative team supporting the dispatch of biological, chemical, and hazardous samples worldwide. The team works closely with scientists and other departments to ensure timely and compliant shipments, while continuously improving processes and service delivery.

Education
What we're looking for

  • Minimum A-Level in a scientific subject (or equivalent)

Experience

  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting (e.g. laboratory technician, sample preparation, aliquoting)
  • Experience in shipping or logistics, ideally involving scientific or dangerous goods
  • Familiarity with IATA/ADR/IMDG, CLP (GHS), and REACH regulations is desirable
  • Experience in a ticket-operated environment or workload planning is a plus
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools

How You'll Thrive And Create An Impact

  • Prepare and aliquot scientific samples for global shipment, ensuring compliance with international transport regulations and safety standards
  • Coordinate and manage dispatch documentation, including labelling, customs paperwork, and regulatory compliance for hazardous and temperature-sensitive goods
  • Monitor and track shipments proactively, resolving delivery issues and escalating complex queries to ensure timely and accurate sample delivery
  • Support workload planning and ticket-based task allocation, helping optimise team efficiency and service delivery
  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimisation, KPI reporting, and preparation for regulatory audits
