Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom SPT Labtech Full time £40,000 - £70,000 per year

SPT Labtech
continues to grow and we're looking for a
Senior Quality Control Technician
to join our team in Melbourn. In this hands-on role, you'll ensure our consumables and liquid handling products meet the highest quality standards. You'll take ownership of testing processes, help implement new QC methods, and work closely with our Development and Manufacturing Engineering teams to continuously improve how we measure and deliver quality.

About us:

Based in Cambridge, UK, SPT Labtech makes products that transform the way scientists work. For more than two decades, our expert scientists, engineers, and business innovators have provided world-leading, innovative solutions for liquid handling, sample preparation, and sample management that help accelerate research and make a real difference to human health. We work collaboratively with our customers, building trusted relationships that enable us to deliver exceptional, personalised experiences designed for real-world challenges in the lab.

Want to be part of a team that's truly making a difference?

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead by example in Health & Safety and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Conduct in-process and final quality checks on consumables and products ready for dispatch.
  • Manage and inspect incoming stock from a quality perspective.
  • Perform volumetric testing on our liquid handling consumables— ensuring precision, repeatability, and reliability.
  • Develop and improve volumetric test methods and equipment for our liquid handling instruments, driving greater accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Production, Development, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance Teams to solve quality issues, identify root causes, and validate new QC methods.
  • Introduce and document new testing and inspection techniques that enhance our quality processes.
  • Support continuous improvement projects and project involving working on new consumables or transitioning existing consumables into new markets, sharing insights and best practices across teams.
  • Check parts against specifications, drawings, and Certificates of Conformity (COCs).
  • Identify, label, and manage all non-conforming products appropriately.

About you and your skillset:

  • Experience in Quality, Engineering, or Manufacturing environments.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Practical experience in volumetric testing or other precision measurement techniques.
  • Confidence in problem-solving and root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across departments.
  • Comfortable using Manufacturing Planning Systems, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 (experience with ISO 13485 or cGMP is a bonus).
  • You thrive in a team environment possessing a proactive, collaborative, and flexible approach.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Good understanding and practical experience in statistics, including the application of statistical controls and analysis techniques such as control charts, capability analysis, and ongoing control monitoring to evaluate and ensure the quality, reliability, and consistency of consumable products.

  • Strong understanding of polymer chemistry and liquid-surface interactions, including the impact of geometric factors (e.g. bore dimensions, glide force, and surface finish) on wetting, surface tension, and liquid dispensing behaviour of laboratory consumables.

Our commitment to you:

You'll be working with talented professionals in a motivated and driven team.

We offer a competitive salary package and comprehensive, valued benefits, including private medical insurance, a generous pension plan, and an annual discretionary bonus.

We embrace diversity and inclusivity, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, or family status. We prioritise supporting our employees' diverse needs as we strive for excellence together.

If the above resonates with you, apply with an up-to-date CV and be a part of our journey to reshape the future of science.
