Key Responsibilities – Leading Nursery Kitchen, Healthy Meal Preparation, and Food Safety
  • Plan, prepare, and cook varied, healthy menus suitable for children in line with dietary requirements and allergy management
  • Lead the kitchen team, maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment
  • Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, health, and safety regulations at all times
  • Order and manage kitchen stock, minimizing food waste
  • Adapt menus to accommodate special dietary needs and support weaning stages when required
  • Train and supervise kitchen assistants, fostering an inclusive and collaborative workplace
  • Develop positive relationships with staff and communicate clearly with management and parents about allergens and menu planning
  • Support the nursery in creating a safe, nurturing meal and snack experience for all children
Candidate Requirements – What We're Looking For in a Nursery Head Chef
  • Minimum 4 years' chef experience in a fresh food environment (nursery, school, care, or similar settings highly desirable)
  • Sound understanding of children's nutrition and meal planning
  • Up-to-date Level 2 Food Hygiene and Allergen Awareness certification
  • Organized, reliable, and able to adapt to new routines quickly
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Positive, professional attitude with a genuine passion for delivering excellent food in a childcare setting
  • Enhanced DBS check required, or willingness to obtain one prior to starting
