Deputy Head Greenkeeper

Salary: C£30,628 per annum – depending on experience

Hours: Full time 37 Hours per week

Location: Stockwood Park Golf Centre

We're looking for a dedicated and experienced Greenkeeper who is ready to take on the role of Deputy Head Greenkeeper to help maintain and develop our stunning golf facilities at Stockwood Park. You'll work closely with the Head Greenkeeper to ensure the highest possible standards across the golf course, academy course, driving range, football pitch and athletics track. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll supervise and motivate the greenkeeping team, oversee the safe use of equipment and machinery, and deputise for the Head Greenkeeper when required.

What you'll be doing

• Supervising, motivating and developing a team of greenkeepers and trainees to deliver high-quality turf and grounds maintenance.
• Carrying out all aspects of turf care including mowing, aeration, topdressing, spraying, bunker maintenance and irrigation management.
• Monitoring turf health, soil conditions and pest/disease activity and reporting findings to the Head Greenkeeper.
• Assisting in the planning, monitoring and improvement of the golf course, academy, and sports grounds.
• Managing resources effectively — including machinery, materials, irrigation systems and budgets.
• Keeping accurate records relating to Health & Safety, maintenance, and staff training.
• Liaising with managers, consultants, and contractors to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Essential:

• In-depth experience in professional golf course or fine turf maintenance.
• Proven experience supervising or leading a team.
• Knowledge of turf management practices, grass species, pests, diseases, and Health & Safety regulations (including COSHH).
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent).
• Pesticide application certificates (PA1, PA2, PA6).
• Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
• Full driving licence and ability to work regular weekends.

Desirable:

• Experience managing financial and physical resources.
• NVQ Level 4 in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent).
• Chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting certificate.
• First Aid qualification.
• Experience with course design or environmental management.

Rota

Full-time role with regular weekend working and occasional meetings outside normal hours.
