- Proactively encourage and support journalists across the newsroom to interact with readers below the line and, where appropriate, in person to help deepen the journalist-reader relationship
- Create opportunities for readers to engage and interact with the Telegraph's journalism across our verticals, through polls, Q&As, comments, case studies, audio, video, email newsletters and so on
- Develop a deep familiarity with the Telegraph's readers, understand the values they share, spot the issues and stories that generate discussion and regularly share those insights with colleagues
- Use data to inform the team's journalism, experiment with different formats and optimise content to ensure it is as engaging as possible
- Develop effective, sustainable working practices between the Community team and the rest of the newsroom
- Build confident working relationships around the newsroom and liaise daily with other desks to collaborate and support each other's work
- Deputise for the Head of Community Editorial as required
Skills Required
- Knowledge of and interest in the news agenda and current affairs
- Experience of writing, commissioning, editing or publishing highly engaging editorial content
- Comfortable working both in a fast, breaking news environment and on longer-term projects
- Excellent editorial judgement and strong understanding of media law as it applies to our journalism
- Deep understanding of The Telegraph's subscribers, brands and journalistic values
- Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and departments
- Proactive, enthusiastic approach to leading colleagues, pushing through projects and meeting deadlines
- Working knowledge of publishing and workflow tools would be beneficial
