Senior Residential Support Worker

Your Responsibilities

  • Safeguard children at all times, ensuring their safety and protection
  • Support young people with emotional, social, and behavioural needs
  • Lead shifts and guide Support Workers to deliver high-quality care
  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the home
  • Administer medication if required (following training and procedures)
  • Work closely with and support the line manager in operational tasks
  • Complete staffsupervisions and support team development
  • Carry out audits to ensure compliance and quality of care
  • Develop the team, encouraging growth, learning, and best practice
  • Promote wellbeing, education, and independence
  • Contribute to care plans, risk assessments, and reports
  • Collaborate with families, schools, and professionals
  • Provide consistent, nurturing care

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in residential childcare – at least 12 months working in a children's home, with an understanding of safeguarding and supporting young people with challenging behaviours
  • Leadership skills – confidence in leading shifts, supervising staff, and supporting the line manager in ensuring high standards of care
  • Professional qualification – Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is essential
  • Role model qualities – able to inspire, mentor, and develop colleagues while maintaining professionalism and consistency
  • Decision-making ability – calm, confident, and able to handle incidents or emergencies appropriately
  • Excellent communication – both verbal and written, including contributing to reports and multi-agency meetings
  • Resilience and flexibility – able to adapt to changing situations and manage shift patterns including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins
  • Driving licence (preferred) – to support activities, appointments, and independence-building for young people
