Purpose-Led Residential Childcare Work

As a Waking Night Childcare Support Worker, you will provide emotional support, supervision and reassurance to young people aged 10–17, helping to create a calm, safe and therapeutic environment throughout the night.

You will receive a full induction, ongoing therapeutic training, reflective practice and continuous professional development within a values-driven residential care setting.

Key Responsibilities

As a Full-Time Waking Night Residential Support Worker, you will:

• Provide a calm, stable and reassuring presence during night hours
• Monitor safety, wellbeing and behaviour to maintain a secure environment
• Support bedtime routines and promote healthy sleep habits
• Carry out regular welfare checks and respond to any incidents
• Follow safeguarding procedures, behaviour support plans and risk assessments
• Complete accurate night logs, incident forms and detailed handovers
• Assist with light household tasks to support smooth operations
• Work collaboratively as part of a therapeutic, child-centred residential childcare team

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

• Experience supporting children or young people (residential care, youth work, social care, education or similar)
• Ability to remain calm, professional and resilient throughout the night
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Good understanding of safeguarding, boundaries and child development
• Flexibility to work full-time waking night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays

Desirable:

• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it)
• First Aid training
• Experience supporting young people with emotional or behavioural needs
• Full UK driving licence
