Job Role: Youth Support Worker - Semi Independent Living
Area of Work: Doncaster/South Yorkshire
Hourly rate: £12.40 per hour
Overtime: Additional £1 per hour for hours worked over 174 per month
Sleeps: £65 per night
Permanent Contracts:
Full-Time: 174 hours per month, equivalent to 40 hours per week
Part-Time: 139 hours per month (32 per week), 104 hours per month (24 per week) available
70 per month - 16 hours per week (available for QCF qualified employees only)

Job Summary:
The role of Key Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being and safety of young people, providing guidance, and creating a supportive environment for young individuals who have faced challenges during their life and require additional support to become fully independent. This position involves direct interaction with residents and teamwork within the service.
Key Responsibilities:
Support:
· Provide day-to-day care, support, and supervision to young people.
· Foster a welcoming and non-judgmental atmosphere to create a sense of community.
· Assist young people with daily living activities, including meal preparation, budgeting, accessing health services, understanding personal hygiene, and general chores and duties involved in running a home.
Support Planning:
· Follow and implement individualised support plans in collaboration with the team and management direction.
· Help young people set and work towards their personal goals, including education, employment, and life skills.
· Encourage young people to develop self-confidence and independence.
Crisis Intervention:
· Be prepared to respond to crises or emergencies, such as emotional distress or conflicts, offering clear advice and guidance as per company policies and procedures.
· Follow established protocols for handling critical incidents and seeking appropriate assistance when needed.
Safety and Security:
· Ensure the safety and security of young people within the facility.
· Conduct regular safety checks and monitor access to the premises.
· Report any safety concerns, maintenance issues, or facility needs promptly to your team leaders, registered service managers.
Documentation:
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of young people interactions, progress, and incidents.
· Complete required paperwork, including incident reports and shift logs.
Communication:
· Communicate effectively with young people, fellow staff members, and supervisory personnel.
· Attend staff meetings, case reviews, and training sessions as required.
Advocacy and Referrals:
· Advocate on behalf of young people to access needed services, benefits, and resources.
· Refer young people to appropriate external agencies and support services when necessary.

Working as a Key Worker in Supported Accommodation for Young People can be highly rewarding as you directly impact the lives of vulnerable young individuals, helping them to overcome challenges and work toward a brighter future. This role requires compassion, dedication, and a commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment.
Whilst this role does not require previous experience as training and development is given, however it is desired that the candidate would have:
Qualifications/Experience/Skills/Person Specification:
· Level 3 diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent or the desire and commitment to work towards.
· High school diploma or equivalent; a relevant degree or certification in social work, psychology, or a related field is a plus.
· Previous experience in a similar support role, particularly working with young people facing challenges.
· Empathy, patience, and the ability to build rapport with young residents.
· Crisis intervention skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
· Knowledge of local resources and services for young people.
· Ability to follow policies, procedures, and guidelines.
· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Cultural sensitivity and a non-judgmental approach.
