UX Designer
We're on the hunt for a UX Designer to help shape the future of how millions of people use Mumsnet.
This role sits within the Product team, working alongside Product Managers and Engineers to design experiences that make our platform more useful, engaging, and valuable. You'll play a key part in not only solving user problems, but also spotting new opportunities — researching ideas, testing assumptions, and designing solutions that are worth building because they work for both users and the business.
We care more about understanding user needs and making progress toward our product goals than about polishing pixels. You'll use research, data, and AI tools to move quickly, validate ideas early, and make sure what we deliver makes a real impact.
Who we areMumsnet is the UK's biggest website for parents, and our purpose is to make their lives easier. We've got some of the busiest forums in Europe, with users offering each other advice and support 24/7 (as well as more content, bloggers, videos, events and campaigns than you can shake a rattle at). We want to be indispensably useful for parents, and a great place to work.
Why work for us?We focus on steady, sustainable growth, putting purpose (to make parent's lives easier) before profit. We expect great performance, agility and collaboration in every role; cross-team working with talented, clever people is the best part of life at Mumsnet. Most importantly we're looking for candidates with a growth mindset - we know everyone makes mistakes, the important thing is to learn from them and to share your learnings.
We embraced flexible and home working a long time before COVID, and we care much more about outputs than hours on the clock. We don't only want to hire the best people: we want to retain them. If you need some flexibility, let us know and we'll do our best.
We're committed to diversity and equality (see our policy here) and we think we're second to none in the all-round support we offer to parents and carers at work (see our parental leave policies here). Working for Mumsnet means never having to pretend you don't have a family or other commitments, and we promise never to keep you away from a school appointment.
We have a healthy line-up of sandwich lunches, knowledge sessions, monthly socials and sports teams, as well as an unhealthy line-up of staff parties at Kentish Town's excellent pubs and restaurants.
RequirementsWhat you'll be doing
- Partner with Product Managers and Engineers to identify user needs, define problems, and create solutions that meet both user and business goals.
- Explore and validate opportunities — combine user feedback, analytics, and experimentation to identify high-impact problems worth solving.
- Design end-to-end experiences across web and mobile, from early sketches and prototypes to production-ready designs.
- Conduct usability testing and research alongside Product Managers, translating findings into actionable design recommendations that guide product decisions.
- Use AI tools and automation to speed up repetitive work, generate early design ideas, and focus on high-impact problem solving.
- Partner with Engineers to ensure designs are feasible, implemented with care, and deliver the intended experience.
- Contribute to Mumsnet's design system to maintain consistency, accessibility, and efficiency across our platform.
- 3+ years of experience designing digital products with measurable impact.
- Strong ability to translate research and insights into practical, validated design recommendations.
- Experience working across the full design process: discovery, ideation, prototyping, validation, and delivery.
- A portfolio that shows how your work solved meaningful problems or created value for both users and the business.
- Confidence using Figma and familiarity with accessibility and design systems.
- Enthusiasm to use AI tools to accelerate design thinking and testing.
- Clear communicator who can work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- A product mindset — you care about outcomes, not just outputs.
- Experience designing for content heavy or community-driven platforms.
- Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g. Amplitude, HotJar) to inform design research and/or measure design impact.
- Experience running discovery processes and collaborating on product roadmaps.
- Knowledge of experimentation (e.g. A/B testing, concept validation) to help guide design decisions.
- Weekly 1-1's with line manager to review progress, agree roles, provide support
- Bespoke learning platforms to support your development - bi-weekly DEAL (Drop Everything And Learn) sessions, training to be agreed with your line manager
- Regular Lunch & Learn sessions
- Buddies
- Mentors
