Are you passionate about turning complex data into meaningful insights that drive strategic decisions?

Birmingham City Council is seeking a Data, Insight & Analytics Officer to join our Refugees & Migration Team within Adult Social Care Commissioning.

This newly created role responds to emerging workstreams around asylum, resettlement, and migration, where data is critical to understanding community needs and informing citywide planning.

As Data, Insight & Analytics Officer you will be responsible for organising incoming data from government and providers, developing visual insights, and helping the team build a consistent approach to data interpretation. Your work will directly influence decisions on property procurement, community safety, and strategic planning for newly arrived communities.

You'll work closely with stakeholders to develop dashboards, visualise trends, and provide actionable insights that inform policy and service delivery. If you thrive in a collaborative environment and have experience working with demographic and location-based data, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Synthesise external datasets (e.g. property lists, ethnicity data, employment stats) into actionable insights.
  • Develop dashboards and visual tools to support strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to improve data flow and consistency.
  • Support the City of Sanctuary programme and other migration-related initiatives.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with demographic and location-based data.
  • Strong analytical and visualisation skills (e.g. dashboards, mapping).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Public sector experience is helpful but not essential—challenge and fresh perspectives are welcome.

Why Join Us
This is more than a data role—it's a chance to make a real difference in the lives of people arriving and settling in Birmingham. You'll be part of a team that leads the city's strategic work on migration, including the City of Sanctuary programme, and supports vulnerable communities through evidence-based decision-making.

We welcome fresh perspectives. Whether you come from the public sector, academia, or industry, your insights will help us challenge internal assumptions and improve how we work. You'll have the autonomy to shape your approach, the support of a collaborative team, and the opportunity to influence citywide strategy through your work.

Join us and help build a clearer, more compassionate picture of Birmingham's migration landscape—one dataset at a time.
