Teacher of Piano
Stamford School has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Piano Teacher to join our team on a self-employed basis. The suitable candidate will be experienced in piano technique for pupils of all ages, have a strong understanding of music theory, and possess excellent communication skills. If you have an ability for inspiring students and helping them reach their full potential, we want to hear from you.
Music flourishes at Stamford. We aim to give students of all ages, from year one to sixth form, the opportunity to engage in and enjoy music-making. Each week approximately 400 individual lessons are taught by a team of 18 instrumental music teachers. All orchestral instruments are catered for in addition to piano, jazz piano, organ, saxophone, drums, percussion, classical guitar, electric and bass guitar and singing. The department, which embraces both the Senior and Junior Schools, offers a wide range of instrumental tuition, including all the major orchestral, jazz and popular instruments, tuned and untuned percussion, drum kit, all guitars, and singing.
In addition to the full-time staff, there are 18 part-time instrumental and vocal specialists, many of whom are professional performers, bringing a wealth of experience and opportunity into the schools. There are several orchestras, choirs and bands, and a myriad of chamber groups (currently including string quartets, saxophone ensembles, clarinet choir and flute choirs), rock bands, House choirs and other ensembles, which change depending on which pupils need further opportunities. This flexible approach enables all students to develop those ensemble skills essential to being a good performer.
Including external events, there are on average around 70 performance opportunities a year. There is also a biennial Musical in the Senior school and an annual Spotlight production for Y6 in the Junior School. We offer both Music and Music Technology to A Level, and over the last five years many students have gone on to study Music at institutions including King's College Cambridge, the Royal College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, The Royal Northern College of Music, Durham University and Leeds College of Music.
