The China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) is the UK's national business network promoting trade and investment with China. Since 1954 we have acted as the independent voice of business, located at the heart of the action, engaging across both countries in every sector and region. CBBC supports our members and partners by delivering the advice, analysis and access which they need to seize the China opportunity. Our diverse membership includes the UK's leading companies and universities, dynamic SMEs, and a growing number of Chinese companies exporting to and investing in the UK.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent communication, research and analytical skills to work as part of a dedicated policy and advocacy team. The Senior Policy Analyst will play a pivotal role in delivering CBBC's strategic analysis, monitoring developments in UK–China trade and investment relations and the broader geopolitical landscape, and ensuring that the perspectives of our members are effectively represented to government and key stakeholders.
Based in the UK, the role reports to the Head of Public Affairs, and will work closely with our teams across the UK and China, as well as external partners.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate should be able to combine rigorous policy analysis with strategic communications to help strengthen our influence and engagement with members, policymakers, media, and stakeholders.
1. Policy and Research
- Monitor and analyse policy, economic, and regulatory developments, both in China and the UK, that affect member businesses
- Develop evidence-based policy positions, briefing papers, consultation responses, and submissions
- Prepare regular reports for CBBC members including weekly media report, monthly economic report, and quarterly trade tacker
- Lead research projects and produce high-quality reports and data-driven insights
- Advise senior management and members on key policy trends, risks, and opportunities
2. Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulators, partner organisations, and think tanks
- Support the design and execution of advocacy strategies to advance the association's priorities
- Coordinate with member companies to capture and reflect their perspectives in policy positions
3. Communications and Public Affairs
- Collaborate with the marketing and membership team to translate policy insights into clear, compelling messages
- Contribute to press releases, op-eds, newsletters, and social media content
- Support speechwriting, media briefings, and event planning for key policy announcements
- Help ensure consistency and alignment between policy and communications outputs
Specific Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Degree in public policy, economics, political science, law, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in policy analysis, government affairs, or related roles
- A keen interest in international trade policy, and economic and business-related policy issues
- A good understanding of UK-China trade and investment issues in the global context
- Strong analytical skills, with demonstrable experience of undertaking research and analysis
- Excellent analytical and writing skills (native English/equivalent)
- Confident in stakeholder engagement and representing organisational views externally
- An ability to read Mandarin to a high-level is preferred
- Self-motivation and willingness to be flexible
