Senior Quantity Surveyor – Utilities & Infrastructure Sector

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the financial management of utility infrastructure projects from inception to completion. Your core duties will include:

  • Developing and managing detailed cost estimates and project budgets
  • Conducting thorough cost analysis and risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle
  • Measuring, valuing, submitting, and negotiating contract variations
  • Supporting procurement activities, including contractor and supplier selection
  • Preparing tender documents, contracts, bills of quantities, and related documentation
  • Monitoring project progress and producing financial reports for senior stakeholders
  • Negotiating contracts and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Ensuring full compliance with legal and regulatory standards
  • Leading post-completion audits and final account settlements

Key Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Quantity Surveyor role, ideally within the utilities sector
  • Proven track record in cost management for infrastructure projects (water, gas, electricity, telecoms)
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contracts
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., RICS, ICES)
  • Experience with project management and cost control software
  • Background working with public utility companies or major contractors
