Description About the Team
Vintage Cash Cow is a unique concept designed to help customers sell their old stuff, in the most convenient and speedy way. Here at the main hub, the hustle and bustle of a warehouse is combined with the vibrancy and excitement of hundreds of experts working together to value and process our wonderful customers' items. Here you will be working in collaboration with multiple departments in a hive of activity, handling stock and sending it on its journey from valuation to the hammer fall at auction.
Join our passionate Gold Team, where we specialise in processing gold, fine jewellery, and high-value jewellery for auction and trade sales. Handling valuable stock requires a high level of collaboration, with tasks shared among team members to achieve ambitious departmental goals. With deep expertise in antique, vintage, and fine jewellery, our team thrives on daily discoveries and continuous learning. Each piece tells a story, and you'll have the chance to unlock and preserve that history.
About the Role
As a Jewellery Product Assessor, you'll play a key role in assessing, sorting, and preparing fine jewellery and precious metals for auction and sale. This role is ideal for someone with retail jewellery experience (e.g., Pandora, high-street jewellers), bench jewellers, or those with expertise in fine jewellery and auction processes who want to expand their skills and knowledge in the luxury and vintage market.
You'll be entrusted with tasks such as breaking down jewellery, identifying and cataloguing valuable pieces, and ensuring secure preparation and documentation of stock for auction. Working closely with teammates, you'll contribute to shared goals while honing your expertise in the field.
Key Responsibilities Getting Started…
- Master new skills developing proficiency in XRF testing and identifying metal purity.
- Learn jewellery breakdown techniques by understanding processes for breaking down jewellery and carefully removing gemstones.
- Confidently identify and test gold, fine jewellery, and other metals' purity.
- Assist in quality-checking solid gold for secure bagging.
- Actively contribute to record-keeping and process optimisation related to fine jewellery and auction preparation.
- Manage workload independently, prioritising tasks efficiently.
- Collaborate on departmental KPIs and suggest innovative enhancements.
- Assess and catalogue high-value jewellery, identifying fine, antique, and collectible pieces with accuracy.
- Sort and break down jewellery into solid gold scrap, carefully removing gemstones and non-gold components.
- Identify metal purity and distinguish between carats using visual inspection and XRF testing (training provided).
- Prepare and weigh solid gold for secure storage, adhering strictly to security protocols.
- Create curated lots of fine jewellery to meet KPIs, producing detailed and accurate descriptions using internal tools.
- Record weights, figures, and stock information meticulously.
- Quality-check items for accuracy and compliance with all security standards.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Previous experience in retail jewellery settings (e.g. high-street jewellers), bench jewellers, or involvement in fine jewellery and auction processes is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with vintage, antique, and fine jewellery, including hallmarks, carats, and metal purity.
- Attention to detail with the ability to handle valuable items with precision and care.
- Comfortable working with figures, weights, and Excel-based tracking systems.
- Familiarity with vintage and antique jewellery is desirable, though not essential.
- Experience with security protocols for high-value stock is a plus.
