About the Role

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a committed and experienced professional to head our Transportation Infrastructure service. This is a critical role that shapes the borough's transport future, ensuring our infrastructure supports economic growth, sustainability, safety, and social inclusion.

As Head of Transportation Infrastructure, you will lead a diverse portfolio including highways design, bridges, urban traffic control, highways development control, road safety, and transportation strategy. You'll play a key role in delivering the Council's Transport Strategy while influencing the development of a new Local Plan and Growth Plan as well as regional initiatives through partnerships with South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and Transport for the North.

About You

We're looking for a strategic thinker and senior leader with:

• Substantial experience in transportation infrastructure services, including policy development and strategic planning.
• A proven track record of managing complex programmes and leading operational services to a high standard.
• Strong leadership skills with experience in managing people and driving change.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities, including multi-agency working.
• Knowledge of local government processes, political context, and legislative frameworks relevant to transport and infrastructure.
• Level 7 qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.

Until 31st March 2026 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a monthly deduction from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded three additional days leave (pro rata for part-time).
