York Learning are an adult learning provider committed to providing high quality education across the City of York. York Learning work with a range of learners from aged 16 right up to 100+ over a broad range of provision. This post is aimed at the provision for 16-18 and up to 25 with an EHCP as young adult learners.
A vacancy has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Lead Learning and Skills Tutor to work within a small team on our Post 16 Foundation Learning Programme, Routes2Success.
You should be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the needs of young people who may have been disengaged from learning for some time and face significant barriers to engagement. You should have a sound knowledge in your area of specialism and have the ability to lead the planning and delivery of courses at levels ranging from entry level up to Level 2, including GCSE; as well as developing awareness of our wider York Learning offer.
Delivery is primarily GCSE English and Maths but may cover Functional Skills at Level 1 & 2. The role is also responsible for embedding numeracy and literacy skills within the Life Skills curriculum.
The main responsibilities of the role will be to support the Curriculum Manager and Tutors. To plan, develop, teach, assess and promote programmes for learners aged 16 +. To carry out observations of teaching and learning and assist in the promotion of courses across the curriculum. A wide knowledge of the Educational Health Care plan (EHCP) process is required to support the needs of learners age16-19 and up to 25 for those learners with an EHCP. To support with this, the role will also involve planning and attending professional meetings ensuring learner, organisational and funding targets are met.
Experience of teaching and supporting learners with additional needs and those who are vulnerable and have complex SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) needs is essential.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
