London, Greater London, United Kingdom MOTORS Full time £60,000 - £120,000 per year

At MOTORS, we like to say that we know MOTORS

Millions of people come to us every month to find their next car, because we keep the car search process simple. We have hundreds of thousands of used cars listed for sale by dealers nationwide, and guides, advice, tips and reviews to help buyers find the right one. We don't just help consumers, though.

For our dealer partners, we offer a unique advertising ecosystem that allows them to get their cars seen by buyers across some of the UK's biggest car search sites: MOTORS, Cazoo, eBay, Gumtree and Parkers.

In 2024 we acquired Cazoo, one of the UK's most recognised automotive brands, marking the start of an exciting new chapter. We're now building on Cazoo's strong brand recognition to create the next-generation car search experience—one that's simpler, smarter, and more transparent.

We're excited about what's ahead, and we're looking for ambitious, adaptable team members who thrive in a fast-moving, evolving business.

The Director of Analytics will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of our marketplace by leading a high-performing analytics team. You will oversee the governance, collection, analysis, and interpretation of vast amounts of data to generate actionable insights that inform key business decisions, such as enhancing user experiences, marketing optimisation and commercial performance. Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, you will be responsible for creating and executing a robust data strategy that enables the business to scale effectively, drives revenue growth, and fosters a data-driven culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a diverse team of analysts and business intelligence professionals.
  • Set clear team goals, foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, and support career development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Commercial and Operations.

Data Strategy & Governance:

  • Define and execute the company's data strategy, ensuring that analytics capabilities align with broader business objectives.
  • Oversee the establishment of robust data governance processes, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and security across the organisation.
  • Champion the use of data and analytics to drive business innovation, operational efficiency, and dealer & user satisfaction.

Business Intelligence & Insights:

  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) that track marketplace health, growth, and user engagement.
  • Provide actionable insights through data visualisation, predictive modelling, and advanced statistical analysis.
  • Lead ad hoc analyses and data exploration to answer critical business questions and solve complex problems.

Product & User Insights:

  • Leverage data to identify user behaviour trends, market opportunities, and pain points within the platform.
  • Partner closely with Product and UX teams to analyse A/B testing, user journeys, and feature adoption to improve the user experience and product offerings.
  • Support the optimisation of pricing strategies, product recommendations, and marketplace dynamics through data-driven insights.

Operational & Financial Analytics:

  • Partner with Commercial Operations and Finance to optimise revenue streams, manage cost efficiency, and drive profitability through data-backed decisions.
  • Provide visibility into key business drivers, including supply-demand dynamics, seller performance, customer acquisition costs, and lifetime value (LTV).

Tools & Technology:

  • Oversee the implementation and use of advanced analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence tools.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies and platforms to enhance the company's data infrastructure and analytical capabilities.

Our Culture:
We're creating a fearless and dynamic culture, where bold ideas, feedback, high performance, and collaboration unlock potential. We need leaders who embody this mindset and bring teams with them.

What you'll bring:

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in analytics, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably within a marketplace or e-commerce technology environment.
  • Proven track record of driving data-driven decision-making at the strategic level and delivering measurable business impact.
  • Leadership experience managing, coaching and developing high performance analytics teams, including analytics, data scientists and BI professionals.

Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis tools and languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R, LookerStudio, Power BI).
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, statistical analysis, machine learning, and business intelligence best practices.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Snowflake) and big data technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights.
  • Deep understanding of key supply and demand-side marketplace metrics such as conversion rates, churn, lifetime value (LTV) and user retention.
  • A commercial mindset with sharp customer and partner focus.

Leadership & Communication:

  • Fearless, dynamic leadership style that drives accountability and results.
  • Comfort operating in scale-up pace and ambiguity, with the ability to evolve from hands-on delivery to strategic vision.
  • Proven track record of delivery, from defining vision and strategy through to improvements that drive measurable impact.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and insights to executive leadership, stakeholders, and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to influence and drive change across diverse teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
