Young Persons Direct Work Practitioner

Derby City Council's Children's Early Help and Social Care are looking to recruit two workers to work intensively with children and young people. These positions will be based in:

  • The Staying Together Team that use evidence-based interventions with young people and families who have been assessed as being at risk of breakdown. You will be joining an existing team of experienced Children's Practitioners.

  • The Young Carers Service makes a positive difference in the lives and futures of young carers. A young carer is a young person who provides practical or emotional support for another person, due to mental or physical ill health or disability, long term illness or drug/alcohol misuse.

You will be delivering planned interventions with a specific focus and developing resilience with children and young people. Ideally you will be confident and creative in pulling together one to one intervention.

This post will not involve case holding and will generally mean working alongside an identified member the Team supporting their intervention plan. It will focus on direct work and engaging hard to reach young people who have experienced multiple adverse childhood experiences.

The Opportunity

In the role of Young Peoples Direct Work Practitioner, here's an example of what you'll be doing to make an impact:

You will be responsible for planning and delivering direct work to children and young people.

You will work collaboratively with the team, managers, other professionals and agencies involved in the child's, young persons or family's life, such as social workers, educators, and healthcare providers, to ensure a holistic approach to support.

You will be vigilant in identifying and responding to any safeguarding concerns, ensuring that appropriate protocols and procedures are followed to protect children and young people.

About You

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have…

Ideally you will have some experience of working with hard-to-reach young people and of working in a multi-agency setting and have a level 2 NVQ qualification in a relevant area and at least a Grade C GCSE in English or equivalent.

Other responsibilities will include:

Maintaining accurate recording on internal record keeping systems

Where needed attending and contributing to review meetings (TAF, Network Meetings, ICPC, RCPC and CRE review meetings)

Producing written reports
