Job Description:
We are seeking experienced Biomedical Science Assistants to join a histology laboratory in Derby. The successful candidate will perform microtomy at a minimum rate of 25 blocks per hour, including complex cases, as well as embedding and microscopic quality control of histological samples. Duties may also include clerical tasks such as booking in specimens and assisting with manual special stains.
Applicants must have prior experience working in a UK laboratory, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and maintain high-quality standards in a fast-paced environment. A face-to-face interview and practical assessment will be required before appointment.
Temporary contract until March 2026 initially.
Requirements:
- Degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a UK laboratory
- Must be able to cut at least 25 blocks per hour, including complex cases
- Strong knowledge of histology techniques and quality assurance standards
- Excellent attention to detail
- Flexibility to support both technical and administrative laboratory functions
- Right to live and work in the UK
