NPD Technologist

Biscuit International UK is the leading specialist supplier of own-label gluten-free biscuits and cookies in the United Kingdom. Located in Gateshead, our production facility operates three lines, with an annual output exceeding 4,300 tonnes annually in plain, chocolate, and sandwich biscuit formats. We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented NPD Technologist to support the delivery of exciting new product development and improvement projects across both local and cross-sell categories.

Location: Gateshead, Team Valley, UK

Reports to: R&D Controller

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage development projects with support from the R&D team, acting as the main contact internally and externally.
  • Provide weekly updates via Launch Meetings, Trackers, and the C2L/Clarizen system.
  • Coordinate artwork and packaging processes, ensuring alignment with customer timelines.
  • Monitor product costs and advise on corrective actions.
  • Support ingredient and process research to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Commercial, Technical, and Marketing.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP and legal standards.
  • Drive sustainable packaging initiatives and support ESG policy.

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree/HND in Food Science, Food Technology, or related field.
  • Experience supporting R&D functions, ideally within the biscuit baking sector.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, HACCP, and sensory analysis.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in IT and project management tools.
  • Experience in industrial trials and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Knowledge of project management and strategic planning.
  • Experience with Clarizen or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with customer codes of practice and sustainable packaging.
