Be part of the world-renowned WorldPop Group at the University of Southampton, a global top 100 university (QS World Rankings WorldPop is an award winning, multi-sectoral team of researchers, technicians and project specialists working on producing data on population distributions and characteristics at high spatial resolution.
We are seeking to recruit a Specialist Technician to source, process, organise and analyse subnational demographic data and their associated digital boundaries. WorldPop produces global gridded population datasets through the spatial disaggregation of population data from a range of sources, including censuses, surveys, projections and estimates, all matched to their associated boundaries to facilitate mapping. Following the production of new gridded estimates, WorldPop is working on the transition towards more regular updates of these datasets. This requires ongoing assembly, harmonization and organization of multi-temporal subnational population count, age/sex breakdown and associated digital boundary data. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with experience and understanding of demographic data and strong data management skills to lead this work. Skills and experience in working with administrative boundary data in GIS will also be beneficial.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the preparation of high-quality publications from the projects to be undertaken and will also be supported to present these projects to stakeholders and at national and international conferences. Further, the individual will contribute to projects across the WorldPop group, providing opportunities to work with UN agencies, governments and researchers around the world.
