Louise Gillic, Head of Crick Academy

Contact term:

About us

The Francis Crick Institute is Europe's largest biomedical research institute under one roof. Our world-class scientists and staff collaborate on vital research to help prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, infectious diseases and neurodegenerative conditions.

The Crick is a place for collaboration, innovation and exploration across many disciplines. A space where the brightest minds can pursue big and bold ideas and discover answers to crucial scientific questions. We support them in a dynamic environment which fosters excellence with state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge facilities, and a creative and curious culture. We've removed traditional boundaries of departments, divisions and disciplines and instead have an open approach that supports every researcher. This gives us the freedom to take risks and carry out high-quality, pioneering research. Creating a space for discovery without boundaries helps us to turn our science into benefits for human health and the economy.

About the role

The Francis Crick Institute's Talent and Organisational Development team forms part of the Crick's People team, and is responsible for the management, development and operation of the Crick's training and career development programmes.

Additionally, you will manage the day-to-day delivery and marketing of the team's training and career development activities, work closely with members of the wider People team and technical training community, and maintain a proactive and inclusive administrative service.

If you are seeking career development in learning and development and have a strong interest in this field, we would love to hear from you.

What you will be doing:

These include but are not limited to:

  • Acting as a point of contact for the learning aspects of Udemy and Workday, the Crick's HR System and proactive maintenance of the system; setting up courses, creating learning pathways, and tracking learner progress.
  • Gathering, analysing and acting on evaluation and impact feedback; making appropriate and timely recommendations to inform the Crick Academy portfolio.
  • Managing relationships with external and internal training facilitators; incorporating feedback, booking new courses, managing marketing and communications, providing support to host online and face to face courses.
  • Budget tracking and managing purchasing processes.
  • Delivering internal communications and marketing of training and careers activities; preparing and sending out weekly newsletters, maintaining internal website pages, and writing new articles and social media content.
  • Supporting and maintaining engagement with the Crick's technical community and associated external networks, including the management of Technician Commitment related planning, activity, and assessment
