We are seeking a dynamic, communicative and systems based
Operations Controller
to support our intricate operation at
Manchester Airport
, ensuring a consistent, high-quality service that supports our airline partners and upholds the highest safety standards.

The Operations Controller is responsible for the allocation of Ramp, Baggage Hall and Operations staff, including displacement of ground service equipment (GSE) to ensure smooth and efficient Airside performance. This role will also act as
Central Load Control (CLC)
for Turkish Airlines and other carriers as directed, ensuring accurate load and balance data.

The Operations Controller will have multiple resource management tools at their disposal to plan, adjust and deconflict resource allocation in real-time.

This role is pivotal in providing the operational picture for Supervisors and Management to accurately assess the dynamic Airside environment. Success in this role requires a clear understanding of Ramp activities, exceptional communication skills, the ability to proactively anticipate adverse situations and make informed decisions to minimise risk whilst maintaining excellent performance levels. The Operations Controller must be confident in giving clear, assertive instructions under stressful and time sensitive situations.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support the Operations Supervisor in daily operational duties and decision-making.
  • Act as
    Central Load Control (CLC)
    for certain carriers as directed, ensuring accurate load and balance data.
  • Disseminate required figures to other airlines' CLCs to assist dispatch teams as needed.
  • Call flight finals, ensuring dispatchers and ramp teams are aware of an arrival.
  • Support the Operations Supervisor to maintain and
    update the Airport Collaborative Decision-Making
    (A-CDM) system in real time.
  • Manage the live allocation of dispatchers, ramp teams, and GSE to ensure optimal resource utilisation and on-time performance
  • Forward planning: Review resourcing and rostering for the upcoming 7-10 days to adjust shifts, days on/ off and seek overtime to ensure adequate operational coverage.
  • Communication & Coordination
    : Work closely with Supervisors and Duty Managers to provide real-time updates to meet current and future need.
  • Maintain oversight of GSE, including reporting items out of service and coordinating deliveries/ transfers.
  • Act as relief support for the Operations Supervisor when required.

What were looking for?

  • Previous experience in airline or airport operations.
  • Strong understanding of flight dispatch, ramp operations, and A-CDM processes.
  • Previous experience within aircraft dispatch, load control and/ or weight and balance/ load planning.
  • Previous experience using airline departure control systems and/ or load control systems.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make time-critical decisions.Proficient in operational software and Microsoft Office tools (including strong skills in Microsoft Excel).
  • Flexibility to work in a shift-based environment, including nights and weekends.
  • Sound knowledge of ramp activities with a
    strong understanding of
    airline SLAs.
  • Strong leadership
    and
    team management skills
    , with the ability to remain calm and
    give
    decisive instructions in time sensitive situations.
  • Excellent communication skills
    , with the confidence to give clear, assertive instructions.

Desirable Skills & Competencies:

  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training
    – or willingness to achieve it.
  • Airside driving permit (ADP) and relevant communication systems training.
  • Aircraft
    weight and balance certification
    .
  • Previous experience using
    TROYA
    .
  • Airport Passenger Boarding Bridge licence (current or previous).
  • Experience in staff coaching, training delivery, audits, or writing incident / delay reports.
