Ofgem
The energy regulator for Great Britain,
Requirements of the role
Britain's energy market is undergoing unprecedented change as we work to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, strengthen energy security, and deliver Net Zero. Ofgem is looking for two Policy Officers to help shape the policies that will guide this transformation, ensuring consumers and communities benefit from a greener, fairer energy system.
Ofgem is Great Britain's independent energy regulator. We're at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers, especially vulnerable people.
We're offering two permanent opportunities to support policy reform and help shape how Britain transitions to a cleaner, more secure energy future. You'll support solutions to some of the most complex challenges facing the energy system, from driving decarbonisation and innovation to protecting consumers and ensuring market resilience. This is your chance to play a meaningful role in how government, industry and regulation come together to deliver Net Zero.
You'll help turn strategy into impact, working across teams and with external partners to bring clarity, insight and evidence to projects that influence the direction of the energy industry. Supporting reforms to strengthen competition, designing frameworks for future markets, or helping deliver consumer benefits, you will contribute to decisions that shape the energy landscape for years to come.
Job Description
We're looking for individuals with strong analytical skills and the ability to draw robust conclusions from evidence. You'll bring excellent organisation, clear communication, and a talent for managing multiple priorities. Collaboration and relationship-building skills are key, along with a genuine interest in public policy, decarbonisation, and the energy sector.
You'll join a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive organisation that values curiosity, care, and impact. Through our flexible resourcing model, you'll have the chance to work across directorates on a range of high-profile projects or undertake longer placements that align with your skills and professional development goals. You'll also enjoy flexible working arrangements, a Civil Service pension, generous leave allowance, and access to learning and career development opportunities.
We have a vital purpose to secure a fair and sustainable energy system for everyone. Join us and help shape the outcomes that will power Britain's cleaner future.
